my bad, moriz is right, i5 won't benefit from triple channel like i7 - frankly DDR3 is a waste of money for most users right now..... thankfully though the prices on it (lower speeds at least) are starting to drop. :/ Still I personally would go for the higher speed RAM, otherwise it's not going to give any benefit and some small boost is better than nothing (otherwise you might as well go DDR2).

This is final build right now, if nothing changes, I'm hoping to order tonight.

CPU- http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16819115215

PSU- http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16817139006

HD- http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16822136320

Case- http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16811129021

GPU- http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...anufacture=XFX

Motherboard - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16813128400

Monitor- http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...Specifications

RAM- http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16820231254

Total: 1444$

EDIT: Just saw your posts, so Dual Channel means I can go ddr2, if it doesn't make that much of a difference I think I will switch. 180$ for RAM is a little pricey for me.

EDIT: theres no 6gb for ddr2 so should I go eight? Or should I stick with 6gb of ddr3 RAM, but lower speeds?

err, dual channel does not mean it supports DDR2. it means you only need two RAM modules to completely fill both channels. this means you need RAM modules in sets of two, instead of sets of three for the i7.

you cannot use DDR2 with lynnfield CPUs. you cannot even insert the RAM modules into the motherboard slots.

you're kinda taking elder's post out of context. he's saying that DDR3 at low frequencies are no better than DDR2. this has nothing to do with whether lynnfield processors can use them or not.

ah i see i see, thx

Also, in my mobo specificatoin for RAM its- DDR3 2200/1333/1066/800
Theres no OC beside the numbers so does that mean I can choose a RAM with any of those speeds?

thank you moriz for clarifying my post, I was a little non-explicit there wasn't I? :/

to the OP - Your mobo ought to handle any DDR3 RAM you get that is 2200 or lower, I would recommend the cheapest 6GB set that is 1600-2200.

original one- http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...Specifications

>.>? why is there two, are they different?

EDIT: nvm i figured it out, one of them is 1080p. I've decided to order the monitor from another store seperately. Anyways thx you guys for all your help and ideas, I'm gonna order now and I'll tell you guys how it goes after =P

Just got my computer on Thursday night! Finally, after almost three weeks of waiting, the 5850 came. My neighbor helped me set it up and now its running great, I am so happy with my computer right now, going from not being able to play games to playing games at high resolutions with 8x AA XD. Thanks again for all the input and help!
