Default Look what I've gone and ordered...

I couldn't handle the pissy performance anymore, so I caved in. It's all uphill from here, except for my bank account which is now -$875, but that's ok I guess... FOR THE HORDE!

The Lynnfield Kit was free, it shows it as a discount in another section of the order. I am not silly!

I am jealous and as long as you aren't in GW I guess you might as well kill the Alliance in that other game which shall not be named

If I remember correct from a post a few months back he just got a new card (or did he decide to wait) so basically he's either waiting on the GF100's or he's got a nice shiny ati card he ripped out of his current pc...

And how is the game which shall not be named? without aion I've been looking for a good mmo that isn't donating to ncsoft?

Yeh, I've got my ATi HD5870 for the time being. I may sell it to someone on campus and snag a GF100 when they release, or once prices settle. Haven't decided yet, that hinges on whether or not ATi release semi decent drivers for this thing.

WoW is the MMO I play now. ^_^ It really is a great game once you hit 80. Getting to 80... a bit tedious, but not nearly as bad as it used to be. The monthly fee is so worth it. Also, WoW looks great with graphics maxed out on a pretty high rez screen.

Clarkdale is dual core, which is something I am trying to move away from. Having 8 logical cores is really nice.

Too bad hyperthreading will never be able to make it feel like 8 real cores though.

If that's a WoW box, Clarkdale should be more than sufficient. The overclocking headroom looks superior to quads as well, if early reports are representative.

I'm going to be building a budget SFF Clarkdale box in a month or so; I fully expect the user experience to be indistinguishable from my $2k+ Bloomfield machine. There just aren't that many workloads that leverage those extra cores, even today.

It's my gaming rig and general "stuff" rig. Crysis2, AvP, WoW, Star Trek Online, video and audio encoding, dvd/bluray burning, and PS CS4 use. My workstation does all the scientific and engineering work, as well as the rest of the Adobe MC stuff.

Not to derail the thread, but what did/do you think of Star Trek Online? I didn't enjoy the space combat very much - I'm not planning to pay now that beta is over.

Note to fanboys - WoW graphics are not the same as GW's, but they do look nice, in there own way, with a good GPU.

It's very good imo. I love the space combat. I hated the ground combat, however. STO might be mildly successful, but it certainly won't shatter any records. It needed another 6 months of refining before it launched. I plan to pick up playing it after I am full geared for Cataclysm.

And yes, WoW can look great guys. It has a cartooned style of graphics, but maxed out at high rez with 4-8xAA, it looks very clean, and very sharp. The details they put on armor and weapons are phenomenal.

Wow may be the Pixar of cartoon looking video games, but it's still a cartoon looking video game. :/

Triple channel is relatively useless for anything less than 4 cores. If you are leveraging all 4 cores, it gives you a slight (less than 5%) edge. 6 Cores+ it becomes more worthwhile. The 920 loses to the 860 is almost every single test/benchmark because of the 860's extremely aggressive turbo mode, and its ability to overclock better just furthers its already obvious lead. I didn't go with the x58 chipset because I don't really plan on Tri/Quad SLi/CFX, and I don't care about triple channel for reasons stated above.

As an update though: UPS damaged my mobo when shipping it, so I am having to RMA it. Sigh... But, my new case is awesome ^_^

WoW sucks.

Now, on topic - everything but the mobo. Why on earth would you buy asrock board, when there are Asus or Gigabyte?
