Default Buy more ram or use speedboost

I need this myth debunked...
Should I buy more ram so games such as gw won't be as choppy or use speed boost from a external storage device?

In order to debunk this, we need information about your system, like CPU, GPU, total RAM, Operating system etc. to know what's actually causing the choppiness.

Unless you're running a bare minimum 512MB system you will see little to no gain from Readyboost.

(edit) that was quick!

Readyboost will add nothing to that setup and 8GB is more than sufficient - overkill if anything!

Neither. 8Gigs of RAM is much more than enough, and speed boost would not affect game performance.

You didn't say what graphics you have. I suspect that it's either some crappy integrated graphics or a low-end card, and that would be the prime cause of your choppiness - especially if that's combined with a relatively high rez like 1680x1050 or 1920x1080.
Next after that would be network/internet problems.

^ what they said.

Also, I wasn't able to find the "p6129f" on HP's website so I couldn't see the exact specs. From what you've told us though, the best improvement would be a graphics card (see if you can find the one you have right now in the device manager or in the display properties). If you are considering buying a more powerful one, keep in mind that many pre-made PCs have rather weak Power Supply Unit (PSU). The Pavilions I looked at trying to find yours all said they had a 300W power supply, so you'd have to find a card that doesn't draw a lot of juice.

All the info I could find on that model of Pavillion (p6129f) says that it has a Intel C2Q not a Phenom II x4. Either way it's a quad core, so no problems there. The video of that model is an intragrated ATI 4350. The 4350 was designed for low power home theators, and it does the job barely.
The best advise I can give not knowing anything about your system other than 8GB of RAM is to upgrade your video card. Without the specs of your power supply, I don't think anyone in thier right mind would recommend any specific video card.

Ready boost is a joke it barley does anything ever. Also main memory is cheap and 1000 times faster then any of today's hard drives.

As others have stated it's likely a slow video card.

RAM doesnt affect on games alot...even 512mb could run GW EASILY..you will not see difference about for example 4gb->8gb
...Just buy new GPU, it's mostly bad in common "supermarket computers"
New processor would help too but that what you got is enough good, not sure about GHZ but i got the 955BE one and it's 3.4->clocked to [email protected]
Try overclocking or buy new stuf..

The choppiness is likely your graphics or your ISP connection. I get great fps, but my ping is awful because I live in the boonies and share DSL with all my neighbors.

Integrated graphic cards are more eviler than Skeletor. Get yourself a real one and disable that onboard atrocity asap.

HP model numbers are a bit bizarre - searching for a P6129f yields no usable results, apart from a few C2Qs available only in Poland.
