Default Computer Freeze up at login

Hello all. I have been playing GW for over 2 years on my one computer and now all of a sudden at GW login, my computer freezes. Has anyone else had this problem? I want to make sure before I start looking at my computer. It just started within the last 2 weeks and I can not pinpoint after which updates, whether the updates were GW related or Windows XP. Thanks all for input before I go crazy trying hardware.

I had a similiar problem which turned out to be ram. If you have 1 gig try removing a stick and see if it freezes. If it does try the other stick. If you don't have 1 gig go buy another stick it's cheap. Basically try and eliminate the memory as it's the most common cause of freeze ups at login.

If you have a 1 gig stick try another one.

Same answer as above have you got enough memory because that can cause your computer to freeze and run slower. Also it may be fragmented this can be sorted by going to my computer right clicking on the hard drive then properties then tools then defragment or download a program for it, hope that has helped :-).

Before we start suggesting he switch out memory sticks, why not have him check the Performance tab in the Task Manager? (CTRL-ALT-DEL, Task Manager, click 'Processes' tab, look at your page file (PF) usage.) What I think of as good memory isn't cheap as far as I'm concerned, and the last thing we want someone to do is go out and spend money if they didn't have to. :P

Have you done any anti-spy/mal/ad-ware and virus scans lately? Assuming that you're running out of memory it could be that you've got a bunch of junk eating up resources. Or are you perhaps multitasking with a bunch of other programs running simultaneously? Every time you clean out *ware it's good to run Disk Cleanup... defragging couldn't hurt either. Once you've cleaned up your computer if you're still having problems, then you know it's time to start looking inside (unless the situation was obviously indicative of a hardware problem.)

Were you saying that the problems started happening after some kind of update 2 weeks ago? Perhaps an upgraded graphics driver could be to blame?
