Default Template Directory Question

Hi, so for f Windows Vista the default template directory is not in the game folder but in some random document folder. Does anyone know how to change the directory where templates are saved?

There's no way to change the template directory, you'll have to just navigate to the "random document folder" and make all your arrangements there.

Have you tried running the game in XP compatibility mode?

And just for the record, saving the template files in your Windows user profile folder in Vista is actually a pretty smart thing for the game to do; in an operating system with some real filesystem security in place (unlike most XP installs) there's no real guarantee the game can write files just anywhere, including its own install directory. It's been like this for ages in Unix-likes and just about every other sane operating system too, and I don't mind Windows finally taking some baby steps in this direction.

Not sure I would agree with that. It may sound good from a corporate network security aspect, but for those home users who just want to know where their dam files are, it's a pain-in-the-ass.
At this time (with XP) I have my GW installed on a separate partition (D). Anytime I want/need to reinstall XP I can just format C:, reinstall, and rerun gw.exe (from D) and viola, everything (GW) works again. I don't know how this is going to shake out when I install Vista and it decides where my files "should" be. (They should be wherever I want them to be.)

I agree, i have an empty template and screenie folder in the c:\ directory where Gw is installed and then a guildwars folder siting in my documents where they are actually saved to, it annoys me simply because everytime i go to find them i forget that theyre saved somewhere else! I would like to have moderate control over my pc... which for some reason on vista is hard

I have also lost count of the amount of people i have had to talk through word 2007... i mean the average user must be tearing their hair out - i know that i struggled with it at first as well but really the changes were a bit ott
