Asus has updated it's Xonar card to have a nice new feature for Vista users.

The removal of the traditional DirectSound 3D Hardware extension API in Windows Vista has flattened the PC 3D audio landscape. This resulted in teething problems for gamers – who lost DirectSound 3D HW positioning, surround sounds, and EAX effects while playing a multitude of existing DirectX game titles in Windows Vista. To circumvent this problem, ASUS has utilized the new DS3D GX gaming audio technology for not only the latest Xonar D2X and U1 products, but also existing Xonar

With DS3D GX technology, proprietary API deployment efforts like OpenAL are unnecessary for both game developers and the sound devices. Unlike other competitive solutions, DS3D GX does not require patch installations or additional expense. Users automatically get DS3D GX functions immediately after installing the updated Xonar drivers.
Aka all Xonar users get DS3D / Eax back for free via there software drivers for GuildWars (and every other game that uses EAX or DS3D).

No "alchemy" that has to do translation for most (but not all games) and forcing there Audigy users to pay (and do internet activation) for this feature. (X-Fi users get this software for free).

I'm sure any audigy user could get the same thing for "free" if they really wanted and knew what to do...

Creative allows one company to use it's EAX technology and it comes back to bite Creative in the ass
