Default Guild Wars doesn't detect DirectX10

I'm running a Nvidia 8500 GT with the latest drivers, installed on Vista in safe mode, and I have the latest DirectX available.

For some reason, whenever I start Guild Wars and I look on the Graphics tab in the options menu, it comes up saying that it's using DirectX 9.

I've run dxdiag and it comes up without doubt saying that my computer's running DirectX 10. Is there a way I can force Guild Wars to detect it? Or does Guild Wars simply not support DirectX 10?

It's simple, Guild Wars was made in 2005 before dx10 even came out. So it just isn't directx 10 compatible just as a lot of games on the market aren't either since it's relatively new. Actually it uses your latest directx it just sees it as dx9 since dx10 comes with all the previous functionalities and compatibilities of it's previous versions.

So having a card that does Directx 10 is beneficial in the purpouse of Guild Wars, then? Great!

Thanks a lot, I've been working my arse of for 2 days to get this to work and now I know why it didn't. Thanks.

Not really, i meant the when running Guild Wars dx10 will give you the same functionalities as dx9, you won't get the added functionalities that comes with dx10 that aren't in dx9 in Guild Wars. Having a dx10 card will prove beneficial in the long run though since new games often support dx10.

There's also the added benefit of having a card that is (unless you upgraded from a 7950GX2 or its equal) more powerful, and capable of giving you much better performance at high settings for existing titles.
