Default Guild Wars from a USB-Stick?

I recently bought a 4 GB USB-Stick, so I can put games on it and play them at school. It's weekend now, and I won't have to go to school till tuesday. I was wondering if I could put Guild Wars on it, and play straight from the stick (plug and play :P). Anyone think this is possible? We've got good and fast computers at school so that won't be the problem.

Well, mines 3,35 gig, without some of the latest updates. Lose some of the (edited) screenshots and it's easily possible to fit it on the stick. What i'm interested in is if it'll actually work work, if I will be able to run a big game from a small USB-Stick.

Possible with Portable GW

my imaged version of guild wars is at 3,5 gig so that shouldn't be a problem as well

Wow, this might actually work then! I'm going to try that program, Pyro, and see if it works. Though, I can also just play .exe's. Until now I've been mostly playing SNES games with it, and I can just start the .exe of the emulator and play, so why would I need another program for Guild Wars?

since you can't install the game on your USB stick, you need some kind of installation on your (school) computer. The portablegw.exe skips that part and will let you play the game without installation on every computer.

All you truly need is to download the client here.

Downloading anyone else's "Portable GW" is just asking to lose your account. I don't claim that that's the case with Pyro Maniac's file. It's just uneccessary to install the game from anywhere other than the official Guild Wars site.

To make things quicker, just copy gw.dat from your computer to your usb stick and transfer it to another computer to avoid having to download everything.

So I can't just move an installed Guild Wars over to my USB-stick and play? That seems weird. All the files are there, or does the GW.exe look on the specific disk where I installed it, instead of just in the main folder? E:\Games\Guild Wars\ whatever instead of (Guild Wars)\.... ?

I'm sorry, I don't know a lot about how computers actually work. Still learning. :P

Also: We got two 30 minute breaks. What else is there to do? I don't have to learn in that time, and I'm not going to sit next to people who try to learn so I won't be bothering them, and I won't be walking in the hallway for 30 minutes.

EDIT: The whole reason I want to play straight from the USB-Stick is because we can't install stuff on the school's computers, and we don't have a lot of room on our spot on the schools server. So that won't work I think...

Yeah, but most of the guys from my class are total assholes, and the guys I do hang out with have weird hobbies (not all of them) like rollercoasters (I'm talking about obsession here). So when I talk to them about the things I like they don't understand, and same thing with their stuff. Ah well, we have fun together and that's all that counts. :P

I'll post here on Tuesday to tell you if it worked or not unless someone has the answer earlier.

EDIT: Oh and yeah the computers are great. We ran a CS lan party once (all computers on the entire floor). Not a second of lag! Makes you wonder why they spend money on that, since according to some kind of school policy they can't let students use they computers for things other than school work (shhhh :P).

it is definately possible. use the portable GW utility, or just install the client and copy the gw.dat file onto the harddrive each time.

keep in mind that most school lab computers do not have graphic cards, so performance will suffer. not to mention, running GW from USB drives will reduce performance as well, since USB drives are not always all that fast.

Since Guild Wars does not really need any installation, just the .exe file and the .dat file, you can play Guild Wars from anywhere you want essentially.

I think the bigger question is; which school technicians would be dumb enough to not monitor the internet activity and port use of various students >.<

One of my friends, back in high school, accidentally opened the user configuration in the control panel. They were in the room in seconds, threatening him with court action o_O.

Infact they accused me of torrenting in School before I actually knew what a torrent was. They introduced me to something I was totally innocent, at the time of using. In their god damn faces >.>

Ask the administration office in Jacksonville, Florida (aka Duval county)...

But theoretically it is possible with just the .dat and the .exe
