Default New Keyboard or Rodent?

Ive decided to go for either a new Keyboard, or a new gaming mouse for my birthday next week.

What im contemplating is; either the G15 Keyboard or a similarly high quality mouse instead.

Do you guys have any remomendations for me?

My current Keyboard is ok. The only thing is that a few Keys have lost their lettering (WSAD to name a few ), this isnt really life threatening.. but the G15 dooooooeeees look really sweet

My current Mouse is a cheap Wireless 5 button optical mouse with a docking station for charging.. again it slightly "used" but still fully functional and still pretty accurate and has a good feel to it... although I think the thumb botton is starting to give.

Well if i were u i would go for the mouse.
If u want the keyboard cuz of the pretty little G-keys i can tell u they dont help at all. I got the G11 and only use 1 of the 54 keys on the side. The screen is also quite useless. The only good use for it to show u the clock.

I would go for the mouse, if you lose a button on your mouse it's hell cause that's one extra skill you have to hunt for on the keyboard in the heat of battle. Especially for a mesmer user like me I only have split seconds to react in pvp.

Are you buying it for yourself, or are you asking your parents for either one of them?
I've read a couple of reviews, and pretty much the best mouse out there is the mx518, not the g7 or anything like that. It's a wired mouse, so no lag. Just ask you parents for the keyboard, and then buy the mouse from your own money, seeing it's about 30 euros here, it can't be more than 35 dollars over there.

Sounds like solid advice to me. I already have an ingame clock from Xfire anyways, so that wouldnt be an issue.

Any advice on a good computer mouse (can be either a cable mouse or a wireless one with a docking station). The prpice should be to a maximum of the cost of the G15 (maybe EUR 65 in Germany), so there should be a very large selection to choose from.

EDIT: im buying for myself... or my wife wants to buy it for me

like I said, the mouse that comes out best in the reviews is the logitech mx 518, or if you can still get it the mx500. the mx518 is really cheap in holland, it's an optical wired mouse, for 30 euros

Definitely a mouse. I'd say grab Logitec G5 Laser Mouse. It's so smooth and precise, and the best thing is the adjustable weight: you can add a cartridge with small weights in it, as much and at what place you like, to fit into every hand.

It's not really cheap, but definitely worth it!

I'd say a new mouse too, keyboards are just keyboards.

I have a 2007 Logitech G5 and I love it, it's totally worth all the money (like 50$ USD).

I spilled a whole cup of water on it too, and it lived without problems.. call it lucky or just quality, I don't know, but that is awesome none the less!

It really helps me a lot in games too, I love the buttons on it. But the adjustable DPI button and weight cartridge are just gimmicks in my opinion, but I guess if you have a bigger hand the weights can help.

I'd say change the DPI buttons to some other function, like adjusting volume (and I use my side buttons for switching songs in winamp) because really you rarely should ever have to adjust your DPI once you get it set like you want, I mean how many other mouses have that? Pretty much none, so it's not important.

Oh yeah and the G5 has a braided cable so you can be sure you aren't going to rip the cord up, this mouse is all quality.

Razer has some good mouses too, but I don't trust any other company for mouses than Logitech, they simply make the best quality imo.

i'd say avoid anything logitech.

But thats mainly because they are prejudice against left-handed people.

that's not true, they just bring out a lot of right handed stuff, and just don't think they'll make enough profit if they take the time to design a left handed version

Well, if you are left handed then don't buy it I guess, no reason to recommend against them. Though I agree it is stupid that there is no left handed versions.

My friend is left handed and she uses her mouse right handed, so yeah.. *shrug*.

If you are going to go for a keyboard there is definately only one to get; the G15, like you mentioned.

If you are going for a mouse personally I'd go Razer, they are ambidextrus, and even so feel amazing, i have the Copperhead, which is a truely amazing mouse, however its only really effective if your playing online shooters.

And theres the problem, a great mouse while a truely great addition will be held back by Guild Wars.

Personally i would say mouse, if you play FPS's its pretty much a must have, and while i am definately going to get the G15 as well as my Copperhead, most keyboards, as long as they have quick launch buttons and feel nice, wont make much difference.

A keyboard's a keyboard; just get one with buttons that feel nice. I personally like the ones with low-profile buttons, almost like a laptop (but with a good feel to them), but some people like the programmable ones. I don't have any experience with those so I can't recommend one, but I never find myself wishing I had macros, so I don't recommend that path.

Now, a mouse is something your hand will be resting on constantly, and it's gotta be comfortable; there is much more variance in mouse design, and something like a scroll wheel that sticks way up and makes a loud clicking noise will drive you nuts. I also find it extremely useful to have at least two side buttons, on the thumb side.

I highly do NOT recommend a g7; this isn't because they're wireless, I never noticed a problem with that, in fact it is a really great mouse, but I had one and it broke 3 times. After 1 year I had to hit it every so often to make it work, then the replacement lasted about 6 months to a year, then started sending random double clicks, then the next replacement started just freezing for 5-10 seconds at a time after about two months. Logitech was very good about replacing them (in fact I have 3 mosty working $80 mice now for the price of one, since I guess having people send them back is not cost-effective for Logitech), but that doesn't change the fact that they fail a lot, which is a major pain in the ass.

After g7 failure #3, I just decided to get a new mouse, a Lachesis, which I highly DO recommend: the buttons feel great, it's low-profile so your wrist can stay mostly flat, it's got 4 side buttons (2 on each side), and the scroll wheel is almost flush with the mouse itself so your finger doesn't have to stick way up in the air to use it. This also makes it much easier to click mouse-3. It's ambidextrous, which is a plus, and even so I think it feels better than any mouse I've touched that is built for right-handed folks. Plus it looks sexeh

I disagree that a mouse being ambidextrous is a bad thing. If you're left handed, ok, maybe there aren't that many left handed mice, but I believe the mx 1000 or revolution has a left handed version, and having a mouse specially designed for your right/left hand is definitely a positive thing. Also, @ blakecraw, your g7 breaking down that often is just bad luck. My buddy bought his like a year ago, and it's still working fine. I have a wireless mx 1000 though, and it does freeze up like once every two days for about 20 seconds. I just figured it was lag. So I can get a replacement for that mouse for free? Cuz I guess it wouldn't hurt...

OK, the selection for mice are

MX516
MX1000
G5
G7 (?)
G9 (a little on the expensive side though)
Copperhead

Ill be testing these in a shop this weekend to see which fits my hand the best before buying online

As im righthanded I can basically choose any of those mice (but yea, it sucks that there are so few for the lefties out there. That wont affect my decision though im afraid)

I am loving my Ideazon Fang keypad, couldn't do without it now. If it was me, I'd buy one of those first and spend what's left of the budget on a mouse. (For me, any old mouse works for Guild Wars... but other games may benefit more from a good one).

Default I disagree.

To all you that say a keyboard is a keyboard.

http://www.saitekusa.com/usa/prod/eclipseii.htm

I have this keyboard and it is awesome. The keys are virtually silent, Its basic with 3 colored back lit, lazer etched keys (this means the letters can not be worn away). The keystroke is perfect for gaming. I have had mine for over a year and a half and it is still like new.

I say a mouse is a mouse.
Happy B-day btw.
