*UPDATE*

As weird as this may sound, I played Guild Wars for 3 hours last night, with NO problems.

The GW Techies told me that it isn't my video card overheating, its my motherboard. So this weekend I am going to get a fan and I'm going to remove the cover to my computer and try that. I'll update if that fixes anything.

so I just set that to auto. The mem test will run for awhile before it errors though so that might be why I'm only getting a BSOD in game and not anywhere else since I don't use any other programs that fill the memory up to that spot. The odd part is when the game crashes without the BSOD (the usual AreaNet error screen) and I look at the details I'm getting that memory address c000050 and I'm pretty sure thats just a graphics card driver issue but that only happens once in a blue moon so I'm more worried about getting the game to work so I can at least finish 1 mission.
Did you try removing all the uneccessary hardware from your Mobo.
I remember a situation I used to have with one of my Old mobos, relating to the AGP slot and the PCI slots and a soundblaster. For some reason, if the soundcard was in the slot below the craphics card, it would crash the machine like crazy. Place it in a totally different slot and it would work perfectly ok. I think this turned out to be the Mobo from what I read, but it solved all my problems with the mobo then.

So, give it a go. Uninstall the drivers for your Audigy and remove the card. Then reboot and test away and see if it makes a difference. If not, then maybe it's time to buy a new mobo.
If it does work though, maybe placing the card in a different PCI slot might make a difference?

I'm just trying to think of solutions that may help you save money.

*UPDATE*

Went up to Best Buy today, got some air cans so I could spray the inside of my computer. I also went out to Target and got me a small fan.

I sprayed the crap, and I mean the living crap, out of the insides of my computer for about a good 30 minutes. I got every nook and cranny of dust that ever existed inside that computer. Afterwords, I hooked up that small fan right next to my computer, blowing inside of it with the fan setting on High.

I felt very accomplished after doing all this and spending the money for the fan and cans. I turned on my computer (with the cover off and the fan still blowing inside of it) and I just have to say, wow. I could seroiusly hear the RPM rise. I proceeded to play Guild Wars. I noticed about a 30 FPS increase, and the loading times were about 2 seconds. I thought I had fixed the problem.

After about 10 minutes of play, I got the BSOD. I was pissed. So just to make sure, I tried to play again. Got about 20 minutes of play and then I got the BSOD.

I just contacted the GW Techs and told them what happened. I will update when I get more news.

So I'm still in connection with NCSoft Techies. I'll let you guys know of any updates. And if I do get my game fixed, I'm not going to leave cause alot of you guys have problems and I wanna help out.
Did you make sure you installed the correct VIA drivers?

There are several different versions available for new and old motherboards. Make sure you installed the right set, as there is one set for older mobos that is a lot more stable and is explained on the VIA website.

Still wondering what exactly there is left for me to do. For about 6 hours of gameplay it worked perfectly fine after i had defragged and ran disk check. Now the error appears again. So i tried uninstalling guild wars completely, then defragging and doing a diskcheck, then installing it and running it, but still the same error. And i doubt its my Graphics Card, Motherboard, Processor or anything of that type because my friend has the exact same parts as i do except for one extra 512MB Ram stick, and a different hard drive. So im convinced its my hard drive or my RAM stick. Ive tried taking out the extra ram stick but that seems to have no effect on the error. It would be great if theres something else you guys could tell me i could do. Thanks = )

Default *Driver conflict*

Well even after my memory failed on numerous test I'm afraid I found the problem to be in the Nvidia driver, I tried a beta driver last night from www.3dchipset.com and now my BSOD's "almost" went away, the odd part is now the lockups only happen in a "town" and never when I'm out on a mission. When they do the curor turns to a regular white microsoft cursor and I have to reboot, after I reboot I get the BSOD until I completely turn off the system and back on, and than I can play again. But like I said no problems whenever I'm outside of a town on a mission or on a quest. Anyone know how a driver conflict can cause BSOD in reference to the memory? I know the nv4_disp.dll BSOD is regarding the GC but the others point at position in my RAM, not my card.

I was having the exact same problem (still am to a point) and it isn't the ram (I bought a brand new GB of corsair to make sure but I still am having the problem), try different version of your graphics driver to see if it might change anything, even a beta release on my GC's current driver appears to work better than the most current version!

Default Thanks

Thanks for your help stelmate. I will try to get a new graphics driver, but in the mean time, i found a way to overcome this problem, described as in the following. Because i get this error after i load into town or other map, i went to char select, and immediately hit this windows button to minimize guild wars. I waited 5 seconds, then went back onto guild wars. The only problem was that the ground became invisible and very blury, so i went to my options and put everything to fastest and it went back to normal. And every time i go to a new map i just do this and it seems to work. Im not sure why it switches back to highest though. But untill i get a new graphics driver, ill try this ^^ Thanks.

I kept everything else the same. Maybe that is the simple solution. If anything changes, I will post it here. I am just happy it is working.
I still have lockups (screen freezes and I have to do a hard reboot), but they are a lot rarer now with the 4.11 Radeon drivers. It frustrating when it happens, but it probably only happens once every 8 or so hours of gameplay.

Default Windows XP SP2 Maybe?

Hi Guys,

just reading through all the replies and everything as I am experiencing the same problems as pretty much everyone else, I am yet to try most things because it has only just started happening for me... but I was thinking, does anyone have thse same issues running a different OS other than Windows XP? I am thinking of trying to install Windows 2000 on my PC and see if I get the same issue's as I ahve experienced a crapload of issues with Windows XP and SP 2. Just a bit of food for thought, if I do go down this path I will let you know the outcome. I am going to try the easier options first (drivers, defrag etc etc) but if they dont work, I am gonna install Windows 2000 and see how that goes.

its not possible for so many people to have memory problems, unless the new Guild Wars Update fried everyones RAMs, including mine. :P...

I'm having problems too. It happends to me when i shut down the game, clicking on the X to close it.

Guys, this has to be a problem with the new update that ANet has done recently. Seems like everyone is having problems with the recent updates, including me.

Lets just hope ANet fixes this problem this week, cuz I would hate for my importand data to get currupted because of restarts.

The GW Tech group told me that it sounds like a wattage problem.

I bought a new powersupply and my rebooting woes continued. It only occurs when I overclock my cpu though. For some reason, my brother with a near identical system can overclock his cpu and run GW fine. Not sure what the problem is but I just play the game and everything else underclocked now with no problems.

Hey I had the reboot/shut down problem for a while now. Yesterday I finally found a solution that worked for me. Just keep trying different drivers (Official and modded), and remember to use driver clean to remove them if they don't work. The Omega 2.5.90 (Catalyst 4.11 based) worked for me.

I recently bought the game... Specs then were:
Windows XP (sp2)
AMD Duron processor 1.31Ghz
NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440
252MB RAM
26GB HD

Basically it kept blacking out on me, at random points in the game. I could be anywhere, from the login screen to in the middle of a fight. I was only barely able to get out of Ascalon city (where it lagged badly) and once out of there if there were like 5 NPC's it'd crash. So, I invested in some more hardware (in the vicinity of $400):

Windows XP (sp2)
AMD Duron processor 1.31Ghz
NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT
768MB RAM
26GB HD

To my dismay, it still blacks out and occasionally just freezes. I've only managed to get to level 5, and if I enter the Catacombs or Wizard's Folly it blacks out.

Contacted tech support, they've been responsive so far, had my first reply within 4 hours, and two subsequent ones within the next 40 minutes. Tried putting settings to the lowest level, and they then told me it was overheating (the house fan to the side of the tower didn't work, it added like 2 minutes). So now I'm waiting for their next reply... I'll keep you posted.

I also tried that Memtest 86, and got up to test #6 with no errors before they contacted me and I stopped it before it had completed. Oh also, this comp has no other programs apart from games and Trend Micro internet security, so no viruses or anything. I am so far not convinced that its a client problem, mainly because other people can still play the game. If every single person was experiencing this, then it would be their fault... I dunno.

Ironically, I'm getting the same problem, a BSOD with no visible text, just scrambled lines of text which I can't understand. I ran it for a while with my case side off today, it ran fine,at 45 degrees celcius for my CPU, I put the case on and it rose to 47.5, which is no big deal, 2 minutes after I checked the temperature, which was 47.5 my GW had a BSOD and I had to restart. It's definately not a temperature issue, as 47.5 isn't really 'testing' for my CPU, my specs:

Athlon 2500+ Oc'ed 3200+ (2.2GHZ)
512MB Geil PC3200 RAM
120GB Maxtor Diamond Max Plus SATA HDD
40GB Seagate Series 6 IDE HDD
Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB (5.3 drivers)
Abit NF7-SV2.0 Nforce 2 motherboard
DirectX Version 9.0C
Windows XP Home Edition SP2
Iiyama Vision Master 1403 CRT

It's really getting annoying, NcSoft really need to fix it, it's definately not a temperature issue, even though it ran fine with my case side off. GW is the only game which does this, HL2, Flight Simulator 2004, IL2, UT2K4 and more don't do this either.

Also, I upped my AGP Aperture size to 256MB, thinking it would solve it, I got about 20 minutes longer gameplay out of it. But this problem is really stressing me out, it's making me fed up of this game; nice one NcSoft, make a game which has so many problems, thank god it costs nothing per month, otherwise it would be cack paying monthly for something faulty.
It's definately not a heating problem...
