Yep.

I'm starting to think that these various issues are completely different from one another; similar (but still different) symptoms, different causes.

Anyone else having this sound/cursor block problem/etc. (and only this exact set of problems), could you please post with system specs and a HijackThis log? Here's my contribution:

alright, im trying to play guildwars and it continuously freezes on me every 5-20 minutes. i have tried downloading and installing the drivers for my processor, and it still freezes.

i have updated the drivers for my video card, and it still freezes.

my system specs are:

windows xp home edition version 2
amd athlon 64 processor 3200+
2.00 GHz, 1.00 GHz of RAM
chip type: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
DAC type: Intergrated RAMDAC
memory size: 128 MB
bios information: version 4.34.20.18.07
Forceware version: 71.89
direct x: 9.0
60 GB harddrive
sound: Realtek AC97 Audio

that is all the info i know how to get. if i am missing some, and you need to know it, please tell me how to retrieve it. im not incredibly computer literate, so the explaination of how to change my bios would probably have to be in plain english. i dont understand what "timing" is, or where in the bios to go to change that, or anything like that. please help me, its incredibly annoying to have this freeze on me every time i play.

and can someone please exlpain how to do this, in a "un-overclocking for dummies" kind of way. im not entirely system software literate. so ill try that.

If you don't know what overclocking is, you probably aren't doing it.

Over/underclocking doesn't seem to have any effect here on the crashing.

does for me, when I OC, the game lasts longer for some reason, but, i think its just a fluke somewhere..I think it might be a problem with memory addressing...or something of that nature....

One person from another topic stated that it was his wireless network card that was causing the problem.
When he switched it with a normal one, the game stopped rebooting.

Neoflame and whoever else uses AntiVir. Turn off the AntiVir in the system tray before playing. Right-click it and uncheck the activate guard. Reactivate it again when you are done playing.

Had the same problem, but it only started today, my Pc was kicking out quite a bit of heat though, I just assumed it was overheating. However I later cleaned upmy hard drive including a spyware removal prog. GW seems to run fine now possibly coincidence though.

i dont think it should as it outlines no actual fix just people trying fixes.. none of which worked. so i assume that its GW problem like the rest of the people. only time will tell (hopefully)

I will give my input into this as well, as my brother's computer is having the same problem. What happens is he loads up the game and sometimes immediately it crashes at the login screen, giving the memory instruction ffff error, that others have reported on here. Other times it will crash after a few minutes. His computer is an AMD, nforce2, ATI card system, with no SP1, and is overclocked. The OCed part is most important because changing the settings back to default results in extremely stable playing time. Only when it's OCed does he get problems.

He however wasnt content with running his cpu at default speeds so we 'tried' to fix the problem when he overclocks. We thought it may be a powersupply problem, so we bought a new one and installed it, that didnt work at all. He loaded up the game and it still immediately crashed at login. We thought it may be the RAM so we bought a new 1 gig stick of that and put it in, that didn't work either. I'm basically at my wit's end, but I am at this point seriously thinking it is his motherboard. I really can't see what else it could be. My one last attempt at fixing it for him will be to rollback his bios to a version previously on his cpu, which was very stable even when his cpu was OCed. A few months ago I flashed it to the most current version and things were much more unstable after that, so I will see what happens when I rollback the bios.

Anyway, just wanted to share with you my thoughts and attempts at fixing this prob. I will report back in a few days about the results of changing bios. Just dont run out buying powersupplies and ram sticks thinking it will solve all your problems because it didnt for us.

if the game works when his computer is at stock speed then that is obviously the cause. Try running Prime95 when the system is overclocked.

The default alarm for voltages on Asus Probe is set at 10% variance, and you are within those tolerances. Companies like PC Power & Cooling (makers of premium power supplies) say that voltage variation needs to be controlled more tightly for system stability. I'm not sure what to believe. Maybe an electrical engineer or someone similarly experienced could add some comments.

Just wanted to jump in and say that this latest patch has appeared to make things even more unstable. My cpu, which never crashed, is starting to crash as well. Though thankfully it's happening very rarely.

hi guys, i had this same problem as u guys ever since i got Guild Wars, i read this whole tread last nite, and i saw the people that had fixed it, ethier didnt overclock their cpu (meaning at stock speed) or even underclocked. i tried this since i had overclocked my cpu only 100mhz further, and ya kno wat, it actually worked, so guys, dont overclock ur cpu, if u did, return it 2 stock speed, still crash, underclock it, but not 2 far, try cooling ur cpu more if crashes remain. and jus 2 let u kno, this doesnt have anything 2 do wif overclocking anything else, i have a X800 pro, flashed to a X800 XT, with no extra cooling done to the vid card, and it still runs fine, as long as my cpu is returned 2 stock speed, i'll keep looking back, to see if things are still crashing
