I need to remove the dust from the inside of my computer. I know you're suppose to use canned air. But is that really necessary?

I was wondering if I could use a hair dryer instead... The hair dryer has a "Cool" mode which is pretty cool, so I don't think that it would damage the components...

You can use it, as long as it's not hot air. I doubt the blowing power is strong enough though. You could buy one of those compressed air cans to blow it clean.

You're paying for a way to clean out your computer, the air cans aren't that expensive and are probably worth it if you spent the time to come here and ask.

Stick your system box in your car and take it to your nearest gas station. Give it a blast with the tire inflating doohickey.
Use a footpump, airbeds for the inflating of
Don't blow in it - breath contains water = not good

Compressed air cans (air dusters) are very good, but over here in England, they are expensive.

Oh, if using option 1 (heh), don't blast the air anywhere near a fan - it will surely knacker it.

i'd go for a bottle of canned air, they're fairly cheap and they last long enough for you to clean the computer a couple of times

yeah canned air isn't expensive. Last semester I bought a 3 pack because I needed one for my computer... The rest I went around spraying at people.

I believe a hairdryer would screw up your computer? Same as vacuums, it should be producing static electricity from the dryer itself I would assume. I dunno for sure but I would think so.

When I worked a local school as a summer job, we were transferring computers from one room to another, and one my jobs was to clean the dust out of computers before transfer, we used an older canister-style vacuum, you could plug the hose into either end one to suck things up, the other side would expel air, worked great to blow the dust out of those PC's. Of course, if you don't have that sort of vacuum, the canned air might be your best bet.

Like a shopvac. But if you do do that be careful to make sure the inside of the vacuum is CLEAN otherwise it will blow the dust from the vac into your computer.

a blow dryer can cause some static discharge.

using a shopvac should work ok. just make sure that your system is grounded.

personally, i use a electric leafblower that i bought for $30.

unless you clean your pc weekly, I think canned air would still be cheaper.

Try comparing the price of a new *power supply* CPU* Graphic Card* or wharever else in in your tower with the price of a can of air.

Compressed air from the corner gaz station may contain a lot of humidity, not recommended.

Using a leaf blower, might blow back more particules in unwanted places.

the inside of a PC should be treated as your own inside. You know of many people tha used Drano against constipation and lived to tell about it ?

Just so long as you empty the tank because the air in the compressor will cause condesation to occur and will blow moisture into your computer if you are not careful. Make sure you let any water out of the tank before using it and then check to make sure no moisture will spray out.

ok 2 things

one move you're pc away from the floor or if it's too close to a radiator move it aswell (both those things are the cause of alot of dust in the pc)

number 2 get a bottle of canned air (one they're cheap, 2 no risk on doing anything wrong (unless you forget to turn of the pc ofcourse))

1 can of air doesn't last too long when you need to clean out 4 computers and a laptop. The leafblower works fine for the cases. I just use the canned air to clean out heatsinks and the laptop now.

Only thing to remember is to stick something into the fans so they don't spin while you're blowing air into them. Spinning the fans at too high of a speed can damage them.
