Exclamation Need Video card advice.

I have not purchased the game but I'm about to go the store and buy it in about an hour. I have an ATI A7000 64 or 32MB and GeForce FX5500 DDR 128MB video cards. I know the site specifies using others but would either of these work? If not I'll postpone buying the game until I get the proper video cards. Asking about Orginal GW and Factions. Any advice would be super. Thank you.

Just throwing an educated guess out here. The GeForce 5500 should be able to run GW fine at lower resolution or settings. My brothers kids have a 5200 in their old hand-me-down and it was able to play Prophecies. Albeit low setting, it did play.
The ATi is even older and I don't think it is DirectX 9 even. I would lean towards the no on that one.
Google, Adrian Rojak pot and that site has a very comprehensive breakdown of GPU's over the years. From gut feel though the nVidia will barely cut it, and the ATi wont. That is more their age difference though than any knock against ATi.

Both cards are pretty terrible. But the 5500 is slightly less terrible and more likely to run gw.

Thanks I hate computers. Why do they ONLY specify 3 video cards? Makes the game a little less appealing for a broke 17 y/o high school student.

I'm assuming the rest of your computer is approximately the age of those cards, so it would probably "work", but expect some lag at low settings.

The ATI will probably work too, but worse than the Geforce. DX9 card isn't necessary to run GW.

Anyone remember the name of the Nvidia series that sucked badly and won't even post-process effects in Guild Wars? Was it the MX series?

Yeah don't get those cards.
You can get a GeForce 6600 for <20 USD on eBay :3

I could run GW on a GeForce 2 with 32Mb dedicated RAM albeit with some graphical glitches. Just because a card isn't supported doesn't mean it won't run the game, it just won't run it optimally.

The FX5500 will run Prophecies for sure and possibly Factions as well. I played GW for a small time with an FX5200 (prolly a couple of weeks) and then I upgraded to a GeForce 7200GT. But to answer your question the 5500 will run GW fine at the lower settings
