Default GW log in code 058 issue

Its been over a year since I last played GW, and fancied playing again this morning. I have 3 accounts each with different e-mail addresses.

Account 1
After a few tries at getting my password right (lol) I got error code 058. Looked this up and forwarded the 2 ports it suggested. try again, and its still giving me a code 058.

However

Account 2
I do not get any error code, and logged in no problems straight away, after the massive download that is. As both accounts are on the same PC it cannot be a router problem as code 058 suggests.

Can anyone help? My other main problem here is that I have changed ISP's in the year Ive been away and so I can only log in to GW with my old (redundant) e-mail address, so I doubt tech support will speak to me as I cant prove I didnt buy the game legit.

I think it's cuz of the anti-virus program... if you use nod32. I used to get the same code=058 and I just disabled nod32 and it's working good now.

Despite the error message text, code 058's can also come from a problem with your client, not the internet connection. This problem can be solved by deleting the gw.dat file, which forces the client to re-download all the game data. Also, you can re-install the game.
might need to delete that file....

i have same problem.if you use nod 32 check it first.if problem persist you must open ports.resolve of that problem you find at official site of guild wars.click on support.
if problem its with nod 32 you must add your GW.exe to nod 32 list of exclusion,or you have problem with firewall.

from official site:
We're sorry that you are experiencing network difficulties. The error you are reporting, Code=058, is indicative of a mis-configured network setting or network interference. Please use the following information in order to assist you in troubleshooting this issue:

1. Make sure GW.EXE or GWSETUP.EXE is added to your firewall's exception list. If you have already allowed Guild Wars in the past, please double check the exceptions. Often times firewalls will decide to block Guild Wars after it has patched. If adding an exception does not help, please try completely uninstalling the firewall software.

2. If you are using a router, please open and/or forward both TCP port 6112 and TCP port 80 within their settings. If you are connecting to Guild Wars while on a campus or business network, please consult your network's administrator to verify that these ports are available. If you are using a NETGEAR® router please review the following article:

Why am I unable to connect to Guild Wars while using my NETGEAR® router?

If you are using a wireless router, try connecting your computer directly to the router using an Ethernet cable instead.

3. Try temporarily disabling any Internet Security or Anti-virus/spyware applications. If this resolves the connection issue, then you will need to properly configure these applications in order to enable them while you play Guild Wars. Please contact the author of the software if you do not know how to make these adjustments.

If you have Eset's NOD32 anti-virus software, please see this article.

4. If your Internet Service Provider is America Online® and you are unable to use Internet applications outside of the AOL® client (such as Internet Explorer), please contact their Customer Support regarding this issue at http://www.aol.com/support/help.adp.

If the above information did not resolve this issue, please contact our Technical Support team by opening the PlayNC Support Center and clicking the Ask a Question link at the bottom of the page. Please include the following information:

Are you connecting through a router or hub? If so, what is the name and model number?
Are you on a home, campus, or business network?
Are you using a firewall application? If so which one?
Do you use any Internet Security Applications (ISA) such as CYBERsitter, Net-Nanny, ZoneAlarm®, McAfee®, or Norton™?
Who is your Internet service provider?
What type of connection do you have (cable, DSL, dial-up)?
Where are you located?
Please provide as much relevant information as possible; this will help them swiftly resolve your issue.

Unfortunately Im not using Nod32 - just XP Firewall and the D-Link router firewall, however that couldnt be the problem as I can get the 2nd account to work no problems. Ports are forwarded too, but again, if one account works then the other ought to.

Try adding a -image on the shortcut - This will repair the .vob file you got.
Like: "C:/Program Files/Guild Wars/Gw.exe" -image
This will download any missing files.
Reason: I had this error and my solution was to reinstall the whole game, and that was before I knew the -image flag existed.
Check back if this doesnt solve your problem.

PS: Reinstall the game if the -image doesnt work. :P

I just went through 24 hrs of 058 and generic replies from Arenenet tech support and ended up solving our problem. This may help someone.

The situation:
My wife and I both play GW side by side, on the same LAN. I could log in fine on my PC but all of a sudden she could not log in on hers. Error 058.

This means there was neither a routing problem, a router problem, or antivirus problem (since we both use same A/V). I tried flushing the DNS Cache just to be sure.

I tried a -image option but that didn't work. Note to others: I do not think -image tries to repair your gw.dat file. All it does is try to add any game content you don't currently have that you should have. If your dat file is corrupt the -image option does not fix any corruption.

Solution:
Rename gw.dat to gw.old and run Guild Wars.

The gw.exe file recognises that it doesn't have a dat file so it starts downloading a fresh one. It seems to download a minimum set of data. When the download was complete, Guild Wars started up and logged in just fine.

For safety, I then took a copy of the dat file as it is now a known, clean dat file.

Then I ran gw with -image. Four hours and another 2GB later, I had a 3.7GB dat file with all the game content for Prophs, Factions, and GWEN loaded into it. Guild Wars started just fine, and logged in fine.

I took a backup copy of that dat file too.

Hope this helps someone.

Cheers,
T

I'm having this problem too. I'm copying my message i send to support:

I was playing Guild Wars normally when I found that my friend list had disconnected. Then I tried to reconnect but it didn't work. I logged off and tried again, getting code 58 and not being able to log on Guild Wars. I've been playing Guild Wars for 17 months and I've never had this problem. I'm using router and hub. My router is Zhone and model number: 6211-I3-382-0NM, hub is Allied Telesyn AT-FS708LE. I'm playing in home and I live in Europe Finland. I'm using F-Secure Anti-Virus Client Security 5.56 and I've tried to shut down it but I still keep getting code 58. I've also shutted down Windows Firewall since I don't find it necessary with F-Secure. I've also tried loading new .dat file, doesn't help. My connection type is ADSL.

Now im trying -image. Im wondering why its loading so many files (12000). Shouldnt it download just the missing ones? Or what is it loading?
