Now i nid to noe how to dual boot these both os if possible.

Heres my computer specs (if it helps)
4gig of ram (2x2gig)
EN8800GTS 512 In sli (2 card)
core 2 dual 3.0ghz
500gig HDD

As u can c i got 4 gig of ram and running it on 32bit window xp, so im considering to buy window vista ultimate 64 bit BUT i also want to keep XP since i heard alot of bad stuff on vista.

Got a few questions too ^_^.

Steps in installing the OS? (no idea how to install it)
Do i nid to install application and drivers for both OS?
Any decrease in perfomance?
Will there be any conflict between the two OS?
Is it possible to dual boot 32 bit XP pro and a 64 bit vista ultimate?
Any conflict with my hardware?

I think that dual-booting Vista64 and XP32 would involve 2 physical hard drives, rather than partitioning one.

I also think that dual-booting those two OSes will be rather tricky.

What I do know is that I've been runing Vista64 (Ultimate) for a while and have had no problems at all.

This post is just a stop-gap until people who know arrive

Installed XP32 and Vista Premium64 on a partitioned drive no problem.Googling dual boot will find you plenty of sites that will explain it better than here.

I am not sure about two Windows versions, but if you want to mix Windows with Linux, Windows should be the first, because it overwrites the boot record.

Why ?

A 64 bit OS offers no advantage over XP-32 for less than 4GB RAM total. Even if you have >4GB RAM are your applications 64 bit to take advantage of it?

unless there are issues that i don't know about pertaining to dual-booting with Vista, you should be able to do so with just one partitioned hard drive. my roommate has XP Home, XP Pro, and 2000 on a triple partitioned drive and it runs with no problems. don't know if install order mattered in his case though.

and yes you can use an external hard drive to install an OS on.

I didnt say it was the only way.

Just its usually easier for ppl who wish to dual boot. Since they can avoid some of the driver related problems.

All you need to do is install a partition splitter to one OS. Now make another and split your current hard drive then install your secondary OS to that hard drive and your done.

I think installing Vista second is fairly foolproof.

The other way round, I believe XP overwrites the boot record.

Then you'd probably have to run

Code:

f:\boot\bootsect.exe /NT60 ALL

from the Vista install disc which will boot back into Vista after a restart (replace f: with your DVD drive letter).

Then, I believe, you would need to edit Vista's BCD Store to add XP to the boot menu. That would involve using bcdedit, using an administor priv enabled command window. Probably.

Then it would be simply a matter of entering the following:

bcdedit - create {ntldr} /d 'Windows XP'
bcedit /set {ntldr} device partition=qq
bcedit /set {ntldr} path \ntldr
bcedit /displayorder {ntldr} /addlast

...replacing qq with the active partition letter.

Something like that, probably. What do I know - I'm a nub.

does vista upgrade disk work with dual boot? like the disk which upades XP to vista ( this can save me sum money if i were to buy the full version)
