I have a quad core processor and I want to run gw on one core how to I force it to run on one core?

I'm not sure if it's the same as on a dual core, but try it, can't hurt. Press ctrl+alt+del to get to your task manager, go to processes, go to gw.exe, right click gw.exe and click 'set affinity...' then pick which core you want it to run on there.

That's a one-shot process that you will need to repeat every time you run Guild Wars.

Try that and, if it succeeds in making Guild Wars more stable, download Forcecore which will make GW run on one core every time you launch it.

It is the same thing as dual core, just more cores to un-check,

Never had a stability problem on GW ever, not on my old amd 1800 or my new intel quad core.

Many hours of GW play over the last 4 months has seen no difference at all apart from much greater fps

Is it certain its a multi core issue ?

if you have quad i would use 2 cores forgw so it does lag as bad and the other 2 can be music and internet or vent

It is an issue for some people.

On this computer, when I run Windows XP Professional I have to force the affinity to one core, or else I get weird problems. But on the same computer running Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit I get no problems running on two cores ever, weird.

Likely a configuration issue on the xp set-up that doesn't exist or was fixed on vista.

No, it's not certain it's a "multi-core issue". However, whatever the cause, forcing GW to run in one core often cures it.

I used to have lock-up problems with GW and Windows XP on a dual-core AMD cpu. It would lock-up so badly I had to reset the computer. Running GW through ForceCore fixed it so it no longer locked-up.

I recently upgraded to Vista and an Intel Q6600 quad-core, and although it locks up less often, it still locks up. However, if I use ForceCore the sound goes nuts (continuously). With Vista though, I can always Ctrl-Alt-Del and stop GW with Task Manager and get back in GW fairly quickly, so I'm learning to live with the lock-ups.

In 2 years and on various Core 2 Duo, Quad, and Athlon 64 X2 machines, I've never messed with the affinity of Guild Wars. The game just works....

However, for some games from around the turn of the century, it definitely fixes problems.

I have this issue with a QX6850 and Vista 64. Set affinity down to 2 cores solves the lockups. Going down to one core and the sound is shot.
