Default Low-quality textures except for my own avatar

I noticed that the textures on my own character are rendered extremely nicely (I have the settings ramped to the highest), yet everybody else's characters are rendered with really condensed, non-detailed and low quality textures. Am I have a graphical problem or does Arenanet just not realize that people have computers nowadays that can handle large amounts of characters being rendered with a lot of detail?

The game was made in 2005. Therefore the engine was built around what pc's of 2005(and earlier) could handle. Having dozens of people in a town in high res may not impact much on todays hardware but it most likely would have been noticeable back then. Which is likely why it was made like that. It's not so much because that they were "stupid".

It's more of because they were smart.

As posted above, the mod fixes it if you desire.

Also, you may fail to realize that some people *still* have low spec computers, not everyone has high end gaming rigs and super nice hardware.

<Sarcasm>Yes, because everyone who plays GW has the latest top off the range machines capable of smoothly rendering over 100 high res armours in motion! </Sarcasm>

Incidentally, how big is your e-peen?

Heh, I used to play Guild Wars on a low spec'd computer, so I'm thankful that A-Net made the game the way it is, so that it still looks pretty but I can still play too.

Now I've upgraded, but that doesn't change my opinion about it, I still know how it was back then.

Um, I'm not saying it should be completely default that everything is rendered in high-res, I'm just saying there should be another slider that affects the texture quality of other players. Thanks for the mod FM.

Just a reminder that low-rendered textures are ONLY inside of towns. This is due to the mass populous, and to prevent lag in such events - especially during festivals when it is very packed.

Outside, everything is very high detail and you should notice a graphical improvement on everyone else's armors, and maybe even the world around you.

i don't, but i still use that mod.

why? because there's no difference between 18 fps and 14 fps in towns. it's just as choppy, but at least it now looks better!
