Question Vista compatable programs

Hey everyone

I got a few questions about what programms I should get for my new laptop:

1) Im planning to buy a new laptop. But these days all of the laptops got vista on it, about which i heard story's that not all programs worked on vista.
So I was wondering if these programs still work on vista:
Guildwars ofc
Photoshop CS
Illustrator CS
eMule
uTorrent
Sony Ericsson Media Manager
FL Studio (Fruity Loops Studio)
WinRAR (guess this one works even on 98 )

2) And maybe you can also tell me what much used programs don't work on vista. Cause if I do use 'm I prefer getting Windows XP again. As far as I know Vista doesn't have much profits anyway.

3) Oh and if you also could tell me: What Microsoft Word is the best? Is that office?

4) I also head that Firefox is way better then the normal Internet Explorer. What are the improvements of Firefox?

If you could aswer me one of these questions I would be very happy And if you really could advice me something, please tell me!

Greetings,
Lucy Gwyneth

yeah, firefox is much more secure than IE, im not sure about fast, if you want a fast browser get Opera, all programs will work cause im using Utorrent right now, as well as sony erriccson to manage music on my phone..

like an above poster said though, you know you get those really annoying phones that beep and flash and scream at you every 5 seconds when your battery is low, and you wonder "Wouldn't you save more battery if you didnt make the stupid noises?''

well vista is like that, you turn it on, it makes a noise, you turn it off, it makes a noise.. IT ALWAYS MAKES NOISES!! arghhhhh /insanity *O_O*

Problem is, Firefox 2 is a mother of a memory hog. Much like Vista. Don't know about Firefox 3 yet. My wife uses SeaMonkey, and it's not that bad either- it's also done by the Mozilla team.

This reminds me of the mac-hater tech video on YouTube- "if you can accomplish something while the mac is willing, so much the better."

What I hate is that people that bash vista for program incompatibility are misdirecting their fire- they should be mad at the program companies for not updating their drivers. While I have tons of REALLY old programs that that doesn't work for, setting the compatibility mode works.

Vista's compatibility mode is pretty awesome when it comes to running programs that have problems. Although that being said, I haven't had a problem with a single program not running yet.

First of all: Thnx everyone for the comments
I don't know if I'm allowed to post this, I hope the 24h only counts in ventari's corner

Now some people tell me that Vista and firefox 2 are memory hogs. Does this mean they drain memoryspace?

It just uses up a little bit more memory than XP does, if you have 2gb+ of ram this will not matter, don't worry about it. Every new OS is going to use more memory than XP people, time to move onwards.

Vista works just fine, I love how everyone says it ''Sucks'', it doesn't. I use XP and Vista just fine.

And all of your programs should work fine, yes. *Especially* if it is 32 bit, and if you buy a laptop with a pre-installed OS, it is going to be 32 bit, so your chances of the programs working are very high yes.

I use firefox. I even found a deskside support person at work who would install it on my computer there (most of them say no). BUT firefox isn't failsafe, and you all know it. There are still problems and unfortunately they are still widespread and lie in the realm of human error... not firefox-mozilla-developers human error but lazy-web-developers-who-design-for-IE-rather-the-W3C-standards-to-which-Mozilla-and-Opera-adhere human error.

Conclusion... you still need IE to view some pages until such time as these web developers (hopefully) get a clue.

eMule and utorrent are not illegal as program. But there are some uses of them that are illegal depending where you live.

Yup, that's purely a Ventari's thing. Just try not to double-post (which you haven't )
