So i deicded to update my video drivers last night because finally, and i mean finally, nvidia got off their asses and fixed ut2004 on the geforce 8's. But of course with them you fix one problem and you get another. Now my refresh rate is stuck at 75hz and i cannot change it. And while my monitor does support it(75hz) it's pretty much unusable without wanted to smash something due to how flickery it is.

So i was wondering if anyone might know a tool in which will let me forcibly put my refresh rate back down to 60hz where it belongs and looks right?

Yes. I'm using a 17 inch CRT . Both of the CRT monitors i have do the same thing, flicker at any refresh rate above 60. So far i'm not having much luck fixing this in the things i've tried either. And i'd rather not have to sacrifice the playability(finally) of an old fav by going back to an old driver, if i can.

That is strange. I found, back in the old CRT days, that the higher the refresh rate, the less the flickering. I used to run my 19" Iiyama at 85Hz.

V-sync on?

Yeah 60Hz refresh rate is very flickery, surprised that you want it at that rate. Is your fps above 75fps? If so then enable vsync.

Yea. For me and my CRT's i've owned it's always been backwards. 60hz is smooth as butter, yet anything above that flickers.

As for v-sync.. Doesn't that just effect games(or 3d apps) and lock your framerate at said rate? The flicker i see is noticeable on the desktop too. And forcing v-sync on has no effect.

Yes it locks it so it doesn't go above your monitor refresh rate, which at 75Hz you will not be able to notice.

Is the flickery a wavy motion on the screen? Have you tried degaussing the monitor? Have the monitor plugged into a decent surge protector? Have fluorescent lighting? Have other power cables wrapped around the monitors cables?

Have other power cables wrapped around the monitors cables?[/QUOTE] I'm not really sure how to describe it but it's visible most in the top left, and bottom right corners of the screen. It still seems to be there after hitting degauss(though it may be a bit lighter, not sure yet). I'm not sure of the surge protecting abilities, if any, of the power strip. I don't think the lamp on my desk is of the fluorescent kind. And there are power cables near the monitor cable, but it's kinda hard to avoid that.

Might be a overheating video card. But if 169 drivers worked fine I would revert back to those, 175 seem to be horrible at least from what I've experienced.

My video card temps are around the normal they've always been. Which have always been fine so i don't think it'd be that.

The 169.21's did give me the option to change my refresh rate, unlike the new beta 177.26's i'm using now. But unlike the 177's they don't fix the stuttering in the aforementioned game(unreal tournament 2004). And ya know... it was soooooooo nice to be able to [once again] smoothly play maps that had varying levels of stutter before. Hence why i want to try to force the refresh if possible. But the few apps and things i've tried already don't seem to do anything. Which is why i'm curious if anyone may know of anything else that may work.

You can restore your refresh rate with a Nvidia card by going to the Nvidia control panel -> Display -> Change Resolution

Then under the refresh rate... edit it there. But from my experience higher refresh rate removes flickering.
