i'm planning on buying:
Core™ 2 Duo E8400
Antec Three Hundred case
MSI P45 Neo2-FR mobo
Samsung SpinPoint T 250gig HDD
Sony NEC Optiarc AD-7200S dvd rewriter.
Creative Inspire T7900 7.1 boxes

My budget is around 500euro.

this is what i have in my old system and gonna use in my new system:
MSI 9600GT
4GB DDR2-800
coolermaster m620 PSU.
Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio.

this is gonna be my first time i build a computer myself, so if any1 got tips on the system or on how to build a computer than you are welcome.

If you have to stay in budget, then Id also recomend you salvage the HDD and DVD-Burner from your old system, then you can swap the RAM instead for a faster set.

What are you planning on doing with your new comp? Because most applications wont even need the full 4GB RAM you have there and will profit more from 2GB of faster RAM for example.

HDDs have hardly improved in the last few years (SATA ones at least) compared to other system parts and newer ones are only larger than they were.

Maybe you like good sound, but I can't see the point of a posh sound card. I'd consider sticking to the onboard for the time being...

And I agree about the HDD, if you have one already... reuse it

Yes to reusing the HDD provided it is SATA. Get a SATA interface DVD burner drive as well. They are not much more then their IDE counterparts, and EIDE sucks.... BIG TIME. Everything looks like it's in good shape from my seat. A medium level system on a decent budget. Not cutting edge, not under performing. Pretty good choices, especially the CPU (I LOVE THAT CPU)

Yeah nice set, if u do buy new hdd & dvdr go for the something other than Samsung & Nec !!!

Try Western Digital hdd`s & LG dvdr (these are much better in my opinion) and listen to Rahja on S-ATA interface (MUCH BETTER) !

about salvaging the HDD and dvd drivers, it could be really helpfull to do so.
especially since this one has a OS on it.

Thats one bit of salvaging your HDD which will not benefit you.

You will have to make a complete wipe of the HDD and make it a fresh install with a new Mobo and CPU. This was only to help you stay in budget and avoid unnecesary costs.

On a side note. You may want to keep your RAM after all and go for a new GPU instead. Neitehr of those components are really bad, its just they are slightly dated (happens far too fast nowadays in Computer hardware

). Its your choice. if you want to keep them or not in the end (you may even want to get a second MSI 9600GT and hook them up in SLI if your new Motherboard will permit it). With your setup you have many choices.

Best is to do what the real techies here sugest (seeing as my experience is limited to building 3 computers form scratch

... none have exploded in my face yet at least

).

hmm, so i still need to find the CD's of all the other windows XP versions i got at home, luckily i have around 4 of those xD.

and @ a new GPU, atm i'm really short on cash, but after the summer vacation i got enough money for a better card, like the GTX260.

If you are not planning on installing Vista, then stick with DX9 GPU cards. However if you are planning on installing it at some point, then go save up for a better card later on and keep costs to a minimum for now.

but, what is the differnce between the c2d E8400 and the E8200
to me it looks like the E8400 is just a overclocked E8200.

the E8400 has a higher multiplier. it will also gives you a bit more overclocking options, since these chips are downward unlocked.
