Give your character a bit of leeway: don't run next to walls etc. and you won't get rubberbanded back.

False. It simply occurs when the server differs location from the client. TBH more of the fault is Anet's servers, as movements appear/coincide instantly on your screen, but takes it's damn time to relay that info back to Anet. I can ping google.ca under 10ms, I can boot up FPS games and ping under 30ms. From my location to an Anet server its going from Toronto to Texas, which sux, no reason for my ping to be 4xhigher though.

You gotta take the delay between the client and the server into consideration which is around 300-400ms if you play on foreign or ~100ms if you play on home servers, but it highly depends on the speed of the internet connection and the distance between the two sides.

You are right about the problem though. It's an issue where you aren't where you appear to be due to client-server lag. If you are rubberbanding and cast a spell and then try to move with the mouse, you will snap back the the right location. This is because casting and then moving forces an update to the client. The solution to the problem is to have the client and server update more often if:

1) Multiple monsters are in your aggro bubble
2) You are under the effects if an IMS

The only real problem I have with rubber banding is in AB, when you start on a map and move to a telleport pad only to find out when the clock hits 0 your still standing way back at the start.

Its not a big problem, but very anoying. If your stuck and rubber banding and NOT taking any damage you have no way of knowing untill you either pass through a portal and can't zone, use a skill or notice your hench/heros are not following you.

Rubberbanding.. God I hate it -_-...

Have it on almost every UW run with my W/Rt when trying to run past those Aattxes in the narrow corridor leading to Ice Wastes. Even if they're half radar range away <.<

If you c-space it will get you back to the monsters so you can get around them. Which makes you wonder what that has to do with lag since if it was lag you wouldnt instantly go back to the monsters by c-spacing but you do.

Its about the only game engine weakness they never bothered to fix, which is somewhat dissappointing given how damned annoying it is.

Rubber banding has been around as far back as I can remember (which is almost 3 years). I have high-speed cable, a decent computer (I can run Crysis on low, BioShock and CoD4 on medium, no lag. Both of which are infinitely more demanding than GW), and yet I rubber band almost every PvP match I ever do at least once.

Sorry, that simply just isn't right. This happens to every single player at one time or anyother, and happens to me regularly when 55ing in the UW, although I ping around 100ms most of the time and have a good quality connection.

I can only presume that client/server syncronization occurs less frequently than, say, a first person shooter. I'm guessing this is to keep bandwidth usage to a minimum, and causes sync to be lost every now and again. You can see this happening sometimes if you stand still and move foward slightly, then use a skill straight away, doing this will sometimes make you 'teleport' back the small distance you moved. GW was coded for use on 56k modems after all.

Not that I'm defending the developers at all, this is a very very annoying bug and really should have been fixed a long time ago.

You also have no idea what you're talking about.

Getting bodyblocked because of a 250ms lag is not to be unexpected in an online game. The problem is that when bodyblocked there's a bug which frequently causes either:

a) the client to not properly update your display with your real position from the server
b) the server to not calculate and/or send down your real position

A slight snap-back is normal in an online game from time to time, but this bug causes you to just run and run and run forever like you're in the clear while you see damage numbers flying off you. The only "fix" I know of is to stop and c-space so you attack whatever the closest body-blocking MOB is which will cause you to get a new position and snap all the way back to the proper location.

It's a known bug that causes your proper position to not be updated unless you stop and force it to happen.

I believe ANET has even acknowledged it and may have been the ones that offered clipping caused by an oversized hitbox for armor graphics as an explanation for it.

depending how the anet servers operate, uw might be rubberbanding more because its getting hammered by all the perma sf sins. tried different districts? i band wose in europe than america districts.

Sorry Rick, SF farming can't be blamed for everything lol. This has been happening since the release of GW, the developers presumably know about it but for some reason can't fix it.

Since you clearly have no idea what's being discussed, consider using the various scrolling and clicking mechanisms provided by your mouse to go back through this thread where it was explained multiple times by several different people.

Perhaps then you'll be able to make a comment that is in some way, shape, or form at least tangentially related to what everyone else here is talking about.

Certainly, there have been rubber banding problems throughout Guild Wars. I found that I had more problems than usual recently; but I think it did have something to do with maintenance because, for me, I had much more extreme rubber banding and lag issues during the times stated than I have ever had before.

Okay, I lied. I had thought that it stopped, but it persists. I rarely have issues with this either...
