Default GPU Price Wars

http://www.tgdaily.com/html_tmp/cont...38243-135.html

Looks like nVidia is looking to cut prices on the 280 / 260 to compete with ATi. The 200 series really hurt them, considering how expensive the 280 is and its only like 10% - 15% better than the 4870, which is considerably cheaper. Kinda funny that the mid range is being marketed by 9800GTX+, just to compete with the 4850.

This is always the trend. This is the deal:

Intel is going to crush amd. Amd has bought out ati. Nvidia, even tho they claim not be be siding with intel, clearly has. Amd knows the only way to stay competitive and making profit is to release low cost gpu's. Nvidia will lower the price of its top line a little but it is still going to be expensive. If you want the best you will pay for it. The best is never the best for long. Honestly, don't you think nvidia already has a gtx280x2 or whatever you want to call it? I'll bet they do.

That's basically the only way AMD has been able to stay competative is to offer similar products at a lower price. Technologically, as I'm sure Rahja will agree, they've always lagged a little. From time to time they get ahead, but it's normally not for very long if they are.

AMD's new phenoms need to pull off the same stunt as the HD4800 radeons: that is, they need to offer ~80% performance of the upcoming nehalems, at the same price (or lower) as intel's current penryn chips.

whether they can do that or not remains to be seen, of course. then again, they can probably do it with their upcoming triple-core phenoms.

on the GPU front, AMD has clearly won this time, and there's not too much nvida can do. it's rumored that a superclocked RV770XT can already beat the GTX280. given that AMD is currently enjoying ridiculously high yields on the RV770, they can potentially play the pricewar a lot more aggressively. the $200 HD4850 is already a very strong contender. pricing it at $150 and it will kill 99% of nvidia's lineup.

The problem with 90% of gpu's is drivers. While ati is an awsome for the price card, you need to deal with their drivers. Nvidia's are not much better but they tend to be a little better.

Drivers and BIOSes, the two greatest evils in the world of computing (not including onboard graphics solutions).

AMD remedied their driver issues a long time ago. if we go by current stuff, it appears that AMD's drivers are better.

but then again, i've never really faced driver issues with my computers. i seem to be able to make computers miraculously work better when i'm using them. there's no other explanation why my dad can crash my old P4 by reading online news, while the POS works perfectly even after my marathon 40-hour GW sessions.

My brother use to say that when his comp would crash then I found out from search history one time he wasn't reading news just porn sites with lots of malware that was causing crashes lol.

You are all so so so wrong about nVidia's plans. Intel are not our friends, and the current project I am on is going to CRUSH them. enough said. Rahja has spoken. As for AMD, they are fine. Intel's Nehalem is impressive, but so is the K11, or as we call it now, HAL 9000.

Or something... hop on vent, and I will explain what I can. Also, look at my profile under occupation. Notice a huge change?

PRDX = Processor Ram Dynamic Cross Interface.

nVidia is friends with AMD, despite AMD's rather aggressive stance towards us. We are not in a friendly position with Intel atm, nor will we be as things progress. Things will be kept as friendly as they can for the time being.

PRDX is a codename, and google will have nothing on it. It is unannounced for the time being. Code names hint at nothing. MUAHAHAHAAH!

Although remember the "can of whoop ass" our CEO promised to open on Intel? It is coming...

I am not allowed to discuss ANYTHING regarding the project. Just know that it will shake up the industry. AMD buying ATi was their step in this direction.

Imbedded CPU solutions? Intels chipsets are better at the moment too, lol.

Something like this? Maybe it has to do with the name...a CPU as efficient / fast as a C2D / Nehalem but with an on die memory controller?

Yea I know thats the trend, its just I ran across it and thought i'd post it up.

EDIT - Or this

Wow, you were the first person to notice that was what we intended it to be. HAHAHHA! Maybe now you can speculate more, as Rahja cannot give anymore info out.

rahja, i'm wondering why Nvidia won't give intel the rights to SLI, any special reason for that?

also i don't get why Nvidia has to release the new card, the 9500GT in both 65 and 55nm, why dont you just release it in 55nm?
