Default GW crashes after connecting to the server

Some days ago when my fiance was playing gw on the PC, the screen froze (that happened many times before) and after closing gw, nothing was working, and the screen was acting weird. He switched off the computer, but he couldnt switch it on anymore. He changed the motherboard and now everything is working properly (including games) except Guild Wars, which crashes after connecting to the server. I copied the error message below. I tried to reinstall gw, checked the memory, downloaded the newest driver for the videocard, spent hours on google trying to find solution for the crash, but found nothing. Now im out of ideas what could be done, so I hope here someone can suggest something.

Thanks in advance

The computer :
Asus A8N SLI Deluxe (installed the newest available chipset)
1 Gig memory
XFX NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT (175.19 driver)
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
Sound Blaster Audigy

Yeesh, yet another c0000005. What's the consensus on this one, guys? Access violation/memory read fail - bad memory or overheating?

Get another gig of memory if you can, by the way.

Just to clear up something I see a lot on this part of the forums...

Drivers are a complete and lazy cop out for troubleshooting. So many times I see people here going "drivers!! get drivers!" and just lol inside. 9 times out of 10, it's not going to be drivers.

Typically a hardware problem with "memory can not be read" errors.

First thing to try is:
gw.exe -nosound -noshaders

Most likely, it'll still crash, but it's a quick thing worth trying to narrow things down.

Next up is:
gw.exe -repair

This will take a while. Once it's done, change the shortcut back to just gw.exe and see if it still crashes. Probably will, still worth a shot.

Now if you're savvy, I'd suggest going into your bios and changing your memory timings to be a bit slower. For example, if you're running at 8-2-2-2, try 11-3-3-3.

See if that changes anything.

Another thing to try is if you have more than one stick of ram in your machine, pop one out, then start the machine up and run GW. If it continues to crash, put the one you took out back in, and take out the other one that you left in. (repeat again for a third stick should you have three)

You said that your fiance changed the motherboard. Personally, if I do a motherboard swap in a computer, it means reinstallation. A lot of problems can come from changing a motherboard since a LOT is being changed all at once. Memory controllers, IDE controllers, chipset, etc. And a lot of times Windows will pretend that everything is ok while behind the scenes, it's having a small seizure.

So yeah, if your fiance changed the mobo out for something drastically different (say going from an old nforce2 based board to an intel chipset or something) then it might be worth a clean install. Simply for the sake of future stability.

Hi, it looks like you might need more ram at least 2Gb should do just fine without any problems. You can run gw on 1gb but over time you will develop problems with running the client. Generally running guildwars uses a lot of windows system resources while the game is running if the memory doesn't support windows and guildwars at the same time it will crash. There could also be a video bios update that you might need. I hope this helps you.

Update the BIOS on the motherboard. It is either a BIOS to driver issue, an area of the memory is corrupt (GW is very finicky when it comes to stability), or some program is blocking access to those sectors (did you install a new anti virus recently?)
