I would say don't download from .dll sites. There are literally hundreds out there and you really don't know what you're getting. Unless one of us can remember a reputable site that downloads kosher files that are the right versions for you, forget it.

I can happily send you the two .dll files. Ddraw.dll is the prime candidate for your problems, but I will give you both (I'm glad I never deleted Windows.old when I upgraded to Vista!). You will need to PM me your email address, as you have it disabled in your preferences.

If anyone else is available to send it quicker, it would be nice - I've just got to work and won't be able to send anything for another 8 hours from now. I would send you copies from this machine but, being NT4, it wouldn't dop you any favours at all

My friend gave me the files, but I have come up with ANOTHER problem (lol). I cant replace or delete the old files. It says some stupid error in both cases, when I try to replace or delete. :E

What error? Need to know exactly what it says.

Your computer hates you, by the way.

Agreed, my computer really hates me XD.

Well, I got the files replaced by using one tool. Dxdiag not complaining about old files again. So, I opened gw, and quickly switched to windows mode. Everything was working just fine, after letting it load for a while, so I opened it and guess what, it froze again.

This is really starting to get annoying..

Ok, so...I'm out.

Unless it's a hardware issue, I've got nothing really.

It's a start.

Now you've managed to get to the stage where you can at least start GW in windowed mode, do as suggested previously; set the affinity to one core.

Right click on Gw.exe and click Set Affinity, then make sure only one box is
checked (doesn't matter which one)

Hit the Ok button and see if Guild Wars freezes again.
If this works, we'll move on to making this fix permanent with the help of ForceCore. If not, we start again ><

Im sorry for my bad english lol..

So you managed to get the 2 .dll files replaced? After that Guild Wars still froze?

Back to trouble shooting then.

Remember when I told you about the -diag thing?

Create a shortcut but this time put -dx8 -noshaders -nosound

Example:

"..\Guild Wars\Gw.exe"

Changes to

"..\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -dx8 -noshaders -nosound

Do any other games work on your computer?
If not I would say your video card is broken.

Money on bunk drivers. try the 169 series drivers or boot into safe mode, rip all the nivida drivers out. use driver sweeper (free program, google it.) then restart the comp. goto microsoft update and let windows get a WHQL signed driver, or install the 169 from nvidias site. For the later, you will need to down load it 1st.

"If the hardware works, do not update the drivers."

LOL... The troubles are following me everywhere I go...

So, I went to Safe mode and used driver sweeper+hijackthis to remove all nVdia driver things.
Then I booted to normal mode, and the computer was SOOO slow. When I opened a webpage, and tried to roll it down, it was like... RRMG..
I went to nVidia site and downloaded 169 drivers.... The setup complained about some compatibility problems, I continued and booted, the drivers didin't work, everything was still laggy. So, I have now the original drivers which I just downloaded again (175 nVidia). :E

Here's some information bout my comp:
club3d 8500gt 512MB DDR2
AMD 5000+ X2 64
2gb ram
Avira Antivirus Personal Free
Comodo Pro Firewall

So, do any of you have a clue what's going on?

Btw, i have checked the temperatures of my graphics controller etc, they are just fine, also I have checked all the wires inside the computer.

Thanks.

Ok, I have bolded the key issues here.

1) We have a dirty install not from the cd. What is the size of the GW.DAT file? If it is over 4GB it is corrupted. delete the .dat file and redownload the game with the -image switch.

2) These cards get hot under load. I did some reading and they get REALLY hot. If the air flow in this case is not up to par this card needs to be RMA fast. This is the most likly senerio as "Started playin, played a while and my computer froze, everything just sopped and I had to boot from the reset button." Card sounds cooked. You claim that you checked the temps. How and with what? Your card gets smokin hot when used with 3D apps. so if you checked the temps at idle or without the use of a 3D app, your temps are NOT good. I suggest you download 3Dmark06 and everest, both are free. open up everest and pull up the sensor info for your GPU and the CPU. While that is running, launch 3dmark06. It will load up a few "cool" mini movies for you to watch. Inbetween the "mini movies" it will load your desktop for a short time, just long enough for you to see your temps. I also do not know what you consider "good temps". To me good temps are UNDER 58c UNDER full load. You need to also see the cpu temps, same rule. Post temps from above scenerio. What are you using to cool the cpu? stock fan? aftermarket? did you use arctic silver 5 thermal compound? AMD proccessors run hot as well.

3) What kind of ram is in this setup? we know it is ddr2 but is it 184 or 240 pin, manufacture and speed? Have you tinkered in the bios? did you run memtest on it? also free.

4) I am unfamilier with the antivirus. Also, why are you using an additional firewall? Windows firewall does its job just fine there is no need to have an aftermarket or additional firewall installed, that I know of.

5) How many and what size fans does the case have? what configuration are they in push/pull? do you use a hard drive, cd/dvd with ide ribbon cables? Are there a mess of wires screwing with airflow?

6) what is the size, make and model of the power supply?

FYI - I do alot of overclocking, computer tweaking, building. This sounds like a heat issue from the cpu/vid card, when a 3D app is launched. I do appologize if you have done all this already. I am just trying to help get you up and running.

Okay, I have some answers.

1) Yes, it was something like 3GB, unistalled it and installed new .dat file, it just brought more trouble.

2) I have checked my temperatures with a program called HWMonitor. Also with everst. Also from BIOS.
core #0 is something like 20-35C also when i play
core #1 20-35C also when I play
graphics controller is something like 40-60C, usually bout 50C. Yes, I have good coolers, this problem has NOTHING to do with temps. :S
I dont see why my computer doesn't crash when I play some games just like GW, like Neverwinter NIghts 2. It has good graphics, right? Im running it with high graphs.
Im currently downloading 3dmark06 and I'll try to do that thing you mentioned..

3) I have no idea about the pins.
BUFFALO RETAIL 1GB DDRII 800MHz
I tried to memtest, but couldn't get CD to boot first... :E

4) Windows firewall=shit. Believe me, I know this. :P

5) Eh. Im not quite sure. THere are five fans I guess. No idea bout the sizes. :E That I can say, no mess with the wires. All wires checked.

6) ANTEC NSK4480 ATX MINI TOWER CASE 380W. The power supply is from Antec.

BTW, I have found out that only the game freezez, not my whole computer, I have managed to get GW to idle in taskbar, but when I open the game, it freezez and I cant get away from that state. Just reset button helps.
