Default The annoying lag... can now be solved! (Legally)

First ReadMe: only works for Xp!
I'm first gonna announce what this trick doe and how it affects your PC.
If you trust me and now what youre doing, go all the way down from this post and click the video link. (YouTube - you can run it in High Quality if you can't see it correct.)

HeyHey,

So all those people always whining about the horrible lag(spikes), well, this might get in handy.
I've posted it some days ago, and got enough replies of people saying it works.
They play all sort of games, so yes, this trick works for all games.
A small list of wich games works and has been tested:
-America's Army (Latency was 80, gone to 35)
-ArchLord
-Counter Strike: Source and 1.6 (Latency was 30, gone to 10)
-Guild Wars (Latency was 90, gone to 60)
-Maple Story
-Quake 3 (Latency was 20, gone to 15 - Old game, were searching if it has a smaller effect on old games)
-World of Warcraft (Latency was 150, gone to an incredible 30ms!)

A small overview of what we are going to do:
First of all, although youre editing your Regedit, this trick is completely safe. And if you would find a bug in it, wich I doubt, you can always delete the file safely. Since it doesn't affect other files.
What this file generally does is simple, from making the value to 1 from 0, it enables your internet connection to gain packets faster from servers and send the packets faster back and forth.
Understand it? Receiving packets (from Serverside) and sending packets (You, Clientside).
What I didn't test yet, is hosting a gamesever, for lets say, Counter Strike. So I'm not sure if this will make the gameserver any faster using this one.

Ok! Enough chatty-chat, follow this link and the video explains for itself.

Watch the video here!
If you can't see the video clear, click HERE (longer load time though)

/edit: Made a type in thread title. Need's to be, "the annoying lag.. Can now be solved! (Legal)
d'oh

*looks sceptical* I apologise if you're legit, but whenever I get advice I don't understand I get immediately suspicious.

Anyone confirm?

I could be wrong but I'm sure this forum has a technical section somewhere.

When its says legal in the title, I automatically think it's not. It's like saying," Officer, I swear this marijuana is legal."

No, I put in Legal in it, cause most people start to whine if this is legal to use on lan parties and stuff.

Sorry if it comes over in the wrong way, but I posted it also at different forums where people appreciate it if you admit it's Legal to use on LAN and stuff.

But I can't change the thread title anymore. And well, I can't prove it that I'm right, that's it's safe to use and all. Sorry

Can someone confirm this isn't a way for us to unwittingly open a hole in our computer's security for people to jump through?

It's perfectly legal, I've heard about this before.

Here's an explanation of it: http://developers.slashdot.org/comme...d&cid=14515105

In short, it removes the waiting time before your computer sends an acknowledge to the Anet servers.

It will really only make a difference if you have chronic high ping, usually a problem for international players. It will not fix lag spikes, nor will it fix server-side lag, which is the problem for most people.

The downside of all this is that it decreases your speed at large file transfers - all the acks you're sending back clog things up a bit. However, it's a small performace cut, and if you need it to fix 500ms international ping, you may as well use it.

Windows has a couple hotfixes related to it here:

I can't watch video on my crap connection here, but what he's saying about the Regedit makes some sense - people have been doing that type of thing for years to improve their gaming (or so they claim). I've not tried it and I would suggest that anyone interested in trying it do some research first... esp. if the concept alone confuses you.

For all I know, it's perfectly legit as it's a TCP setting. I'll continue searching for viruses exploiting that, but I doubt there's anything suspicious.

The "legal" term in the title is a bit too flashy and eye-catching IMHO.

On the same topic, use this TCP Optimizer.

Not sure if this provides a meaningful performance boost if done correctly, but OP gets it wrong:

When you create the parameter is set to 0. You need to change it to 1. Hope this is clearer Chthon.

There's a limit for a reason, and that to prevent any form of malicious infections from spreading quickly. That patch basically strip out the protection. It does not help with P2P or torrents like people believe.

The default is 10 incoming/outgoing which is more than enough, even for power users.

Here's what it looks like in your Event Viewer if you ever hit it.
