Hi all,

I wasn't sure where to post this because this might be a hardware problem and/or a software problem.

Anyways, the problem is, everytime I want to use my microphone from my headset (Terratec USB 5.1) it causes an immediate BSoD, with the error IRQL_GT_ZERO_AT_SYSTEM_SERVICE. It appears everytime I log in to vent or want to phone via Skype.

Could this be a driver problem with Vista Ultimate 64x bit? The headset itself doesn't use any drivers. Is there a conflict between the soundcard (integrated 7.1 Realtek from the Asus P5N-D Mobo) and the USB headset? Or should I just buy a non-USB headset? OR buy a whole new Soundcard AND Headset?

Vista has some sound problems. It has problems with running multiple sound devices at the same time. To test if this is happening to you, disable your onboard sound in your BIOS (you won't have any sound) and test your headset again. If it doesn't crash this time it has to do with the fact you got 2 sound devices. After the test you can enable your onboard sound again, otherwise you won't have any sound. If you can get a non-USB microphone somewhere, that's probably the best option then. Allso try updating your realtek driver.

Personally, I'd go with the "non-USB" headset.

While I have little to add and agree with the above 2 posts. This seems like an irq issue. more than likely the head set and sound card maybe even more or set on the same irq, causing a collision, then the bsod. Irq's can be set manually, I would either go the easy way out and get a non usb headset or do alot of reading on how to mannually set irq's. Do not forget to back up the bios before you go changing stuff.

In this case, I'd rather buy a new Headset, I don't want to go and mess with the bios, I have no experience with it. Anyone got a good one to suggest? It'll have to be rather sturdy and good enough for movies and music, aswell as games, since I'll be using it all the time. 5.1 surround headset would be ace. Any good ones out there? Of course, non-USB! :P
