Question "Expected 1 texture transform indices but got 0" Error

Hi, I am at my dads house for a week and I always play Guild Wars on his PC when I am there without any problem until last night when Guild Wars crashed with this error:

Guild Wars keeps crashing, displaying that error and it can happen within 2 minutes of playing Guild Wars (it sometimes is ok for a while longer). I originally thought it was Texmod but I ruled this out when I ran Guild Wars independently... it still crashes.

Below is a full log. The only thing I have changed in my dads PC was updating his 9600GT graphics card drivers to the latest ones and installed a new sound card. Could the drivers be an issue?

The only thing you've changed is the graphics and sound drivers? Yes, that could be the problem ^^

Try rolling the graphics drivers back and seeing if the problem persists.

I have that card myself, same driver as well, the 175.19. Never have any problem, then again we have different mobo and other stuff. Used to have a few problem with sound blaster driver though. Forgot which one it was that stable enough for me to use, and I havn't update it since.

My dad had a Sound Blaster Live 5.1 which he now upgraded to an x-fi XtremeMusic. The error log suggests something to do with a texture, so I doubt that is anything to do with the soundcard.

I will try a rollback but Etta, what OS are you running? My dad is on XP Pro SP3

XP SP2, I just rolled back from vista.
Yeah I saw the error, it probably is the the 175 driver. But like I said, I never have any crash like that. Roll back and let us know if that work.

Just a thought - it's having problem with missing textures - that may just point to a mangled gw.dat

I was actually thinking of a corrupt or messed up gw.dat file before I posted here. Before I rollback, I will reinstall Guild Wars and make a new gw.dat I like to use the -image tag so this will take all night to download with my dads slow 2mb connection

A few things of note. Learn from my mistakes!

1- A video crash error, does not automatically mean that it is video related. The graphics card is the last thing that the system will see "drawing" to the monitor, so the system MAY report a graphics error. Think of it like this: 100% of human death is because the heart stopped. It does not matter if this person was crushed by a bus or posioned, heart stopped.

2- If you are haveing no problems Do Not Update anything related to drivers. Are you looking for headaches or what? While I am a big fan of "being up to date", if the system has no issues then you are money ahead to leave it be.
If it Aint broke, don't fix it.
(on the flipside if you are having issues, READ what the "newest" fix does, then give it a try. At least you have a little knowledge on what to expect.)

3- install/uninstall in safe mode when it comes to drivers, it just makes life easier.

4- stability>anything else

Yep, good point about the graphics card drivers, that is why still to this hour, I have left the latest ones installed (it is my last option).

I deleted my gw.dat file and downloaded a new one (with the -image tag completely downloaded). I then defragged the gw.dat file using PowerDefragmenter GUI. GW still crashes, but the error I got just now is a little different:

I am unsure what other steps I can do before I try to rollback my graphics card drivers. If I do rollback, I will run Driver Cleaner in safe mode first as always.

I will run memtest first though to check the memory.

Ran memtest for an hour, it passed once with no errors. I understand I should run it for longer but I really don't think it' memory as everything else works fine.

I went back to the 174 drivers and GW still crashes!!!! I managed to play 5 minutes of Alliance Battles before this came up:

I personally hate sound cards as they only ever caused problems for me, took up space, and crashed games for no reason. I just use the onboard sound - most modern motherboards come with good built in sound.

I'd say remove the sound card, and uninstall the drivers. Play Guild Wars and see if you still crash, It sounds really weird to me too but hell, it's worth a shot - not too much trouble either.

I spoke with another Tech on this very subject recently. When I rebuilt, I took out my X-Fi and reverted to onboard sound. I couldn't see any advantage in using it any more, and I loathe Creative divers and the bundled crapware with a vengeance. The other Tech, on the other hand, still justifies using his X-Fi, if nothing else but for the fact that it does increase frame rates quite considerably.

That aside, do what Brianna said - it can't hurt to test all possibilities.

I've had some issues when first installing my X-Fi Music card it caused problems with my graphic card, the problem was resolved when I updated my BIOS, so I'd recommend doing that if the soundcard is indeed the problem.

It depends on how you define "death". A more recent approach to defining death is the cessation of electrical activity in the brain. Just a side note

I fixed the problem! It was due to the sound card drivers...

When I went to the Creative website, and select the suitable sound card, the drivers on show were beta drivers which is the ones I installed. The Creative website does not have non beta, complete drivers, only a stupid web update 5 package which is useless on it's own as it only install the drivers and no Audio Console.

I had to install drivers from the offical driver CD and then apply the web update 5 for everything to work fine. This took 5 hours to figure out and do! and I experienced many BSOD's in the process. Guild Wars no longer crashes now though and everything is fixed.

Is anyone here running the latest BETA Creative drivers for their x-fi card in XP? I am wondering if those who do are experiencing the crashing.

This is XP right? If it is Vista, no wonder. Creative and Vista don't get along, because Creative is the worst company on the planet.

If you want a sound card, get the ASUS Zonar. The new model even has a HD video processor for seamless HD video and HD sound. It is a wondercard. Just steer clear of Creative from now on. I am glad you fixed the issue, although had you not have, I was going to say, it was a sound driver issue.

XP Pro with SP3. My home computer has Vista Home Premium x64 with the same sound card (XtremeMusic) and the card works great.

Can you explain how you knew it was sound related from the code you pasted above? All I see is code (probably in hex?)

Hmm hmm, have to love those sound cards.

As I suspected! (Only a half-ass suspicion really, but hey!)

They most certainly do have non-beta drivers, what are you babbling on about? Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi series Driver 2.15.0006 are the latest non-beta divers for the Sound Blaster X-Fi series.

I downloaded Driver 2.15.0006 and it was known as "Web Update 5" when I launched the installer. I installed it fresh with all traces of Creative drivers removed and I could not get the Audio Console working as when I click the exe, it says it is unavailable for this version. With the beta drivers, the Audio Console worked fine. To get Driver 2.15.0006 working fully, I had to install the drivers from my Creative CD-ROM, then apply the web update over the top. Now I have no problems.

The beta drivers caused the problems for me, I was wondering if anyone here has tried them with Guild Wars? Also, I am still interested in how 'Rahja the Thief' knew it was sound related due to reading the error code.

ESI sampling, etc. Those are audio codes. Years of education and training in this area let me read several hexdec codes. Hexdec is simply a location, it is the precode tags that determine the error.

ESI are audio based limits, EBX are EAX based limiters.
