Default Modem connection

Quick Question

On modems I am having internet issues and download issues. I get no messages of problems from my system (devise manager says all is good). Quick question if I use the USB connection rather then the Ethernet cord on my modem I can bypass the Ethernet card all together… Correct? On a side note Is one faster then the other? It’s a reformatted and recovered drive and I just ran the lunar downloader and all its Malware viral programs scans are all clean. I assuming Hardware failure or close to failure at this point.

The USB connection would be slower, however, you can always try it to confirm that the problem is not the LAN card.

Have you contacted your ISP? It could be a problem server side, esp. if you are having problems without any messages or errors popping up.

Spent two hours on Saturday with my ISP on the phone checking pings etc... My modem looks strong and connection is good to the ISP. We reset my IP address, and went thru all the checks. I tried switching to the USB cable connection and no difference in performance. No malware or virus of any kind has been found by the lunar downloader and all its programs it uses. I can not do a thing right now on the internet. It is a freshly reformatted and recovered drive. No virus software has been installed. And no special firewall except the basic Windows xp. I can not even get any of the updates from Microsoft since the system can not hold a connection. The ISP says it is my system. I have run super antivirus Winsock fix (Utility option inside the program)no change. Computer runs great for everything else. Even dusted off some old software and got some serious Diablo II playing this weekend (Single play no connection needed). Any suggestions?
