Default Frames Per Second Issue

So i stopped playing guild wars for about 2 months, and now i return and i cant seem to get more than 10 frames per second. I dont recall having any of these issues before but now guild wars is unplayable. Also i sometimes get decent fram rate at the log in screen or right when i log in (not sure fi its random) but it goes down hill really fast.

I defragged my computer so thats not the issue
Its also most likely not my computer since its a core duo 2 GB RAM

Im having minor troubles with other games but not as bad as guild wars, any suggestions for what to do?

i suggest re-installing GW but if that doesnt work you may have to get a new video card. I had an intel then upgraded to an ATI and its alot better noe

its a laptop so changing graphcis cards i dont think will be a possibility
i guess i could consider reinstalling guild wars though

the problem is that i didnt have this before so if my graphics card didnt suddenly go bad, its probably not the cause

Is it integrated graphics? If it's integrated, then I wonder how you ever found it playable on Vista. I play on integrated graphics on an XP machine sometimes, which at lowest settings is barely playable.

Also, your chances of having a slot to upgrade graphics in a laptop aren't so great.

The most pain free option would be to download a new antivirus/spyware program and run it. It's not a guaranteed fix, but it won't cost anything and it can't hurt. I suggest AVG or Avast for reliable free programs. It's amazing the slowdown or just about any random problem that can be caused by a little virus/trojan/worm/bot/etc..

Oh yeah, reinstalling GW is a good idea too. (similar note. Did you actually defrag the gw.dat file by itself?????)

Here is a link to check another thing out before you delete anything you might need a software update for your graphics. You can check here under this link for intel. Click downloads when you get to the page and type in your Graphic information and search for an update . There is also some other things there that you might find useful about intel. I hope this helps you.

ive already tryed -image, and it did sucesfully download all my files

Ill consider reinstalling if i have to eh

Default same issue

I have the same problem with my guild wars. But I've seemed to always have it on my machine. I only get 10-21 fps no matter if my graphics are set to max or if they're set to the lowest they can go. Same fps.

Things I've done to try and remedy the issue:
Adjusting my monitors refresh rate to 75 since Windows XP default is 60.
I have 2gbs of RAM.
I have 4gbs of VM.
ATI visiontek x1300 graphics 256MB on board memory.
Windows XP
Pentium 4 processor at 2.4ghz.
Screen Resolution: *Not my monitors recommended bc gw is unplayable at it* 1440x900

In Guild Wars I have everything set as my machine with the refresh rate at 75 and vsync on. I've tried it with vsync off and I get better fps with it on. Same with the refresh rate set as 75 instead of default, it's better at 75. I also have the gw resolustion set to 1440x900.

I pvp a lot and so sometimes it's really hard to do well. I get mad graphics lag. I have also done the -image command and do it twice a week.

No viruses. No adware/spyware either.

I just don't understand why they fps are the same at the lowest graphics settings as the highest one. I figured that I'd get more with a lower setting, but I don't, just a little less lag spike on the graphics end.

refresh rates:
lcd = 60
crt = 75
You can damage a lcd monitor by forcing a faster refresh rate.

On a side note: laptops can seldom be upgraded in any way, with internal hardware. What you have is what you have. I suggest to end all non critical processes and to turn the sound to fastest, low settings, in addition to trying the same for graphics.

Turn the resolution down, but keep it in full screen mode. I think mine (17" monitor - and yes it's a laptop) is at 1280x720 or something like that, it may even be at 1152. Turn all settings down except for textures - keep those high since GW looks horrible at low texture. You'll get pretty good framerates in Tyria since Prophecies is less graphically intensive than Factions or NF. Sometimes your framerate will take a dive for a minute, especially on the last two chapters, but it'll be playable.

I had this same problem for a while and just got this advice a couple of weeks ago.

Your screen's refresh rate is a fixed number you're not supposed to go above that number or you may damage your screen. Vsync won't influence your FPS at all when they're around 10-20.

guevera verreuil my GW would cry if i ran those settings, granted mines a tiny bit different in hardware specs, but i regret buying this shiny lcd monitor with 1280x1024 native.

2.53 ghz 1 gb ram i get 21 fps in gw unless looking straight down, if i could i would run the game on lower settings

relooking at your specs, i prolly should throw another gb of ram at this pc, but jeez, im far above the min specs , i wish they would publish specs for resolutions and quality settings... ))

A 2.5ghz processor and 1 gig of ram is way more than enough for Guild Wars. It's your video card that sucks judging by this, my second computer has a 1.8ghz single core, 1 gig of ram and an 8600GT.

It gets 60 FPS sometimes, usually it's at 30-45 while playing, and that is only the 8600GT perking it up that high, because if it had the old 7300LE that it had then it would be steaming shit. Not to take this off topic though, just some advice is maybe check out your video card as that is probably 99% sure your problem.

As for the OP, I'm currently stumped with this problem. I have had similar problems with Guild Wars, for example - at one time, my CPU on my old computer used to be at like 30-50% while playing, one day it went up to 100% while playing and would never go back down again.

And on my old computer as well, I used to run X2 GW clients on max settings with no problems at all, 30 FPS Average (6600LE, AMD Athlon 64 3000+, don't know clock speeds - and 1 gig or RAM). Then one day after A-Net did an update, I couldn't run two clients anymore without one lagging like mad hell, it would get like 1 FPS and I had to turn off AA to get it to stop lagging.

I'd be willing to wager that A-Net changed some stuff over time and it just causes your computer to not be able to handle it anymore. It has happened to me in the past as you can see above to me.

Solution for me - Bought new stuff, later solution, quit Guild Wars. The latter was the best solution. I know that doesn't help anyone though.

Just to add: It's not as easy as saying ''It worked before, it should work now'' Anet has updated tons of crap, what worked 3 years ago isn't going to work as good now. They have updated shaders, added DX9, tons of other things, and they have probably made other graphical and technical application changes that we don't know about that have caused such problems.

It's the same with old drivers, they used to work 3 years ago, they probably won't work good now. Hence why we update them. I'm not saying anyone's hardware is 3 years old, I am just giving examples of how long Guild Wars has been around up until now. I'm not saying this is your problem, just throwing out there in case.
