I have been playing guild wars perfectly well for the last few days on this pc, then thismorning ive started recieving terrible lag, only when im in the planes of jarin area, everywhere else is fine.

I normally get around 100-500ms ping, mainly in the lower parts of that. Now on the planes of jarin i get up to around 55000ms ping, which is completely unplayable.

Does anyone know how i can fix this, or even what the problem is? (I don't know much about hardware etc works).

How many times did you zone out and back into the plains? It sounds like it could just be regular lag that is unaffected by the explorable you are in. I recieve some hiccups when I cross a certain point on certain maps but nothing that high before.

edit: removed a third "certain" I tried to sneak in there

I have tried to zone in with 2 different characters, around 8-10 times over the last hour or two

Record the IP of the zone (plains might be on a particular server) and do a traceroute to said IP.

Who is your ISP? What is the connection speed?

The IP for the server can be found in the same area your ping is, the little green/orange/red dot.

My ISP is Virgin Media, and im on a 2MB connection.

How do i do a traceroute and what can i discover from this?

Sounds like motivation to get past that area of Nightfall and into something a little more interesting. (I know.. not a real solution, but still it's nice the game is big enough to go where you want).

I have characters past that point so no, it is not.

Its a new character who i need past this point in the game, and many quests are in plains of jarin

Both my new and old charachers are experiencing this

I don't think that site has any use, they trace to PlayNC's servers from their own server, and not you.

As for Tracing in general, some people can't get a successful trace all the way to PlayNC's servers for some reason.

Go to Start > Run > Type cmd and then hit Enter > type tracert 206.127.146.52 and hit Enter again.
