That's odd - I posted a link to powertoys yesterday and it disappeared. Damn ninja edits or senility on my part?

Err, ok I followed the link Snog posted to TweakUI and that didn't go so well. It was from the split off of this thread, here's the post: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...03&postcount=4

I installed, and things just kind of went weird, I try to run it and it says that it has a missing shortcut and it searches for it, then when I go to uninstall it I get this weird thing that pops up, then nothing happens:

So.. any ideas? Am I completely screwed? I can't uninstall it or run it, I don't know if it is safe or what.. I am on Windows XP Pro btw.

Might be a problem with file associations.

Well there's no chance that it could be a virus or malware is it? I'm not saying that it is something Snog would do, but I don't always trust programs themselves.

I guess the only way is to go in and manually delete it or something? What file associations do you speak of?

Malware from download.microsoft.com? oO

The only malware ever reported to come from that particular ip is Windows!

TweakUI has been in existance for years - I'm pretty sure I was using it with 98. It is a MS product, it is recommended by Microsoft but it is not supported by them...

Ah, I see. Well if that version is old then that may be why it messed up, though I figured if you pulled a link up it would have been updated so I really didn't assume anything of that sort right off the bat.

Either way, I guess if I can't remove it then I will ignore it and just use the other people's methods to remove the recycle bin, aka registry or whatever. I really didn't want to resort to that, but disabling icons on my desktop makes my wallpapers go really horrid in quality (why.. I don't know..) but yeah.

Here's the full link to the Windows Powertoys range: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/D...powertoys.mspx

You'll see that there are two versions of TweakUI, one of which is for Itanium-based systems. I don't pretend to know what the difference is

Here's a link to file association repair. It sounds like your system is borked somehow, probably from all the modifications.

There have been several versions of TweakUI. It was updated for Windows 2000 and again for XP.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TweakUI

Itanium is meant for 64 bit.

I think vB does, Inde may have disabled it? (honestly, not many people quote anyway on GWG, it's much more the territory of one-liners...)
