Exclamation New PC slowdowns.

Ok, this is starting to piss me off. Basically, I've got this brand new HP computer, with great specs (q6700, 4GB RAM, 8600gt, vista premium 64-bit). However...every 1-2 weeks, it just suddenly slows down. I mean dramatically. It's not gradual, it just happens. It becomes ok after I use JKDefrag, but I personally don't think this should be happening. I haven't even been doing anything intensive (ie GW, photoshopping, video, etc). All I've been doing is typing essays and going on the net. Anyone know why this is happening?

I'm not familiar with HP's bundled software, but that is a possibility. Also, check to see if any anti-virus scans are running in the background.

Ty for the suggestions. However, I doubt that, all HP services I removed. Vista...not quite sure. And there are no antivirus scans going on, because I disabled them. This doesn't explain why defragging would fix it.

Urg... HP... when will you people start buying custom computers?

Anyway most HP systems I've come across have Norton pre installed, get rid of it!

Are you sure you remove nothing important from all the HP software? Some of the software is required to keep your computer working properly.

Also, if your hard disk is nearly full, performance drops dramatically.

You could try scanning (not with Norton) your computer for anything bad, what you describe could be the behaviour of a virus.

Hehe, I know it sucks. I normally build my own computer, but this time around circumstances didn't allow it. I got rid of Norton. Bottom line, it sucks. I use AVG rite now, but I think I'm going to switch to NOD32. Also, hard disk is not nearly full at all (unless u count 770GB/920GB free nearly). I have already scanned my computer with Avira when I had it, AVG, and one more I can't remember. Oh yeah, I don't think I removed anything important. I removed the exact same thing from my brother's HP, and nothing is happening to his.

You had Norton, and wondered why it was slow?

Despite what some have said about Vista in this thread, they must not have used it much. It doesn't slow down your computer unless the computer's hardware does not meet the requirements.

Only use one virus scanner and one firewall, else conflicts will cause massive slowdowns.

Do not disable the pagefile or any services.

Now, if you want to be sure you got rid of Norton, go to http://symantec.com/symnrt and use that wonderful tool.

Want to be sure HP's crap is gone? Use PC Decrapifier!
