Can only run GW once per boot
I think this goes here.
Anyway. I boot up my laptop, load Guild Wars, start playing. Exit out of GW later. Double click on GW again, receive the following message: Unable to Install The installer could not write Guild Wars to the specified directory. Please check that you have adminstrative access I do, that you have permission to install programs in the specified directory I do, and that there is sufficient space available on the drive. There is. This occurs whether or not there has actually been an update to download, and the only way to play GW again is to reboot the laptop. It's an Acer Aspire 5601Z, tell me where to go to get you the stats you want, and I'll get 'em for you. And please, no 'zomg GW shouldn't be running on there because it's so crappy', thanks

soz had to.
Ok well, I think the actual exe is corrupted. It should not be trying to install everytime. I would go to the actual folder where gw is stored and launch the app from the icon there, shut it down, and repeat. If it launches then just make a new short cut from the 1 that works. If it doesn't, move the .dat file. reinstall the game, but stop it from downloading, then move the gw.dat file back to the original folder and try again. |

I'd been launching tit straight from the folder originally, but hey
 It didn't work as you just told me to, so I've reinstalled GW, currently moving the .dat back into place.Will edit when I've tried again. Edit: *sigh* Upon first attempt of running the .exe, it gives me the same message as before. Restarting PC to see what happens on a 'clean' run up. At this point its time to rip it out and reinstall it. Seems to be the fix for 90% of all software issues.

How much RAM is in the laptop?
How much free RAM do you have after startup? How much free RAM do you have after exiting GW? Are you running things in the background that are not fully releasing unused RAM (such as Firefox)? |
