Default Changing Windows XP Theme

Is it safe to do so? Because I heard changing it slows your pc down. If it is safe, what is the recommended program to change your theme and isn't too hard to understand?

Some theme programs slow it down, such as Aston and Windowblidns since they use up memory (if your computer doesn't suck you shouldn't notice it), but if you just use basic custom visual styles you won't see any performance drop.

You can download the Zune theme, it's doesn't give a hit to performance at all.

Windowblinds does suck up some memory and unless you want to pay money. The trial is very limited. The best that I have found so far is uxtheme. Just download the patch here http://www.withinwindows.com/uxtheme-patches/ then get your skin here http://customize.org/xpthemes

UXTender for Windows XP works fine for patching the uxtheme.dll file; then you can apply .msstyles themes.

StyleXP is very good, as it requires little to no overhead.

Vista Customization Pack is great also, if you want the Vista look without the actual Vista.
