Cool NAV Removes texmod.exe

Just went to start texmod and Norton Anti Virus removed my texmod.exe just before I clicked it. I have auto update on for Norton so it just updated definitions today I'm assuming thats why it's now seeing texmod.exe as a "trojan" although I know it isn't. I've had texmod and used it for months now and just to be sure I redownloaded texmod from the official wiki site ( http://www.tombraiderhub.com/tr7/mod...oad/texmod.zip ). Tried extracting texmod.exe from the .zip a few times and Norton removes it immiedately as I extract it giving me the message trojan blocked. -.-

Sigh, just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this? I'm assuming it's from the newest NAV virus definitions.

Now I got to find out how to make NAV allow it. -.-

EDIT: Just looked over Norton can't seem to find a way to make it allow texmod.exe. I resorted to disabling auto-protect, extract texmod.exe from the .zip, run texmod, re-enable auto protect. I find it pretty lame that NAV is just now seeing texmod as a trojan after it's been out for so long and proved it's not a risk. If anyone finds a way to make NAV allow texmod let me know disabling auto-protect will be a pain everytime I want to run texmod. =\

Norton is no good... You may want to use SymNRT and get rid of it and install Avast (Custom install and Minimal) or Avira AntiVir

Some time ago, NAV was updated to consider texmod as malware... then a short time later another update stopped NAV doing this... and now it sounds like it's back on NAV's badboy list again :-P (I haven't seen this myself yet). You could try contacting Symantec about it, and attach texmod.exe so they can test it (AGAIN), explain that it is expected to "interfere" with other software.

Meanwhile, you should be able to get around it by adding texmod as an exception, in ALL the places where NAV allows exceptions - although I seem to recall that still wouldn't stop NAV doing the dirty under ALL conditions/scans. Might depend on which version of NAV you use though.

Like others have said, you might want to consider another AV package... NAV is not so well regarded these days, and it's a bloated resource hog. I still use it because I am practically dependant on other Norton products like Ghost* so I can't avoid the bloat anyway. But I use other packages in addition to NAV.

*Ghost is my weapon of choice whenever I suspect anything bad happened to my PC. I use a very small C: drive with Windows, system and most software... data, games etc go on a big D: drive. Ghost can make an image the C: drive in a few minutes, and it fits on a single DVD. I make a new image after installing anything new, and it has been running stable.

Anything weird on my computer - anything at all - and I nuke the whole C: drive back to a "clean" image in a few minutes using Ghost, then I scan c: and D: using "E V E R Y T H I N G"

Should just buy another small drive Hissy, and RAID1 them. Then you truly have an image.

BIGGEST.. FAIL.. EVER..

Just uninstall NAV and get something less bad.

I suggest NOD32, because your lack of basic software knowledge leads me to believe you have Vista eating .7 of your 1 gigs of RAM.

Can I just say that Norton will no longer be disparaged to the extent it was before on this forum.

It has improved - a lot.

It has quite a way to go to win back consumers' trust, however.

If any of you had tried the 2009 release you will see some of the major Improvements. Also if it is picking up texmod again just submit it as a false positive and it will be checked and updated.
