Default Why the low fps?

Recently, GW has given my sub par FPS (<30 fps)
first, my specs;
Windows XP Pro SP3, Intel Core2 Duo @ 2.4ghz, 2gb RAM, nVidia 8600m GT (512mb vRAM)
this is a 2day old installation of XP. prior to this installation (was sp2) i was getting 100+ fps on max graphics (more than a year like that).

what..... could be wrong. i'm fairly certain all my drivers are up to date.

oh. one more thing.
This is a MacBook pro 3,1. previously i had been running 10.4.11 with bootcamp 1.3b. i upgraded to 10.5.6 with bootcamp 2.0. is apple really that fail that when they "improve" stuff it gets worse
