Hiya,

I'm trying to make a new partition using the built-in functionality in Vista, but I'm coming across some problems. (I'm using this walkthrough: http://lifehacker.com/photogallery/v...tition/1661370 ) Vista's partition maker is telling me that my C: drive only has 8337 MB of shrink space available, but My Computer very clearly tells me that I have 152 GB of 223 GB free on my hard drive. The second partition I want to make should be around 50 GB, as I'm planning on dual-booting my current copy of Vista with the Windows 7 Beta.

I tried de-fragmenting my hard drive since I assumed that my fragmented drive may have had something to do with it. However, that only reduced my shrink space! It went from around 11,000 MB to 8,337 MB. I'm pretty sure that the way the shrink space allocation works is that it allows all space up until it hits the first system file on the disk.

Can anyone either direct me towards a free defragmenter that can move system files around, a free third-party partition maker, or some other work-around?
