Default port 63988

I'm trying to download something but the download speed is realy low (0.1-0.3kb/sec) , never had problems with this before but the program now sais my "port 63988" is closed? is this realy the problem or is it just a slow download? and if it's the problem how do i open it?

edit: i'm using comoda firewall, spybot s&d, and avira antivir free edition

are you downloading torrents? Depending on what you are downloading and what software you are using aand where you are downloading from, you may have to forward that port to get better speeds. (which is a pain in the rump, but generally doable).

Ports can be used for more things than torrents you know. Anyways, port forwarding (or triggering, that's more versatile but I've never done it) is actually pretty easy. Log into your router and start looking around for port forwarding/triggering... usually you'll give the port a name, a range, TCP/UDP/both designation, then which computer you want to forward to. If that doesn't work, look into your firewall settings or upgrade the firmware (WIRED CONNECTION ONLY). Portforward.com too but it never worked for me too.

If you want to check if a port is open try http://www.utorrent.com/testport.php
