Default will a switch to Xp improve performance?

I just played GW on my lappie since I let my friend use my pc because he lost his internet and I was just pissed at how laggy it was.

My laptop has 2.5gb system ram and an nvidia go 6150 gfx card. I know its an integrated card but I want to squeeze the most out of it.

Will the switch to XP be worth it or even noticeable enough FPS-wise?

I'm using V I S T A

What do you have now? If Vista, then yes, it will improve.

omg sorry I didn't post it. Yeah, I'm using vista as you guys correctly guessed haha. Is it a dramatic difference? like 10-20 fps?

I've never seen any empirical evidence that games suffer a significant performance penalty under Vista SP1 compared to XP.

Either way, switching operating systems isn't going to be able to make up for that graphics card. My recommendation is to turn down the eye candy and resolution.

Well, I already turned down the graphix pretty much at its lowest. I'm running at the 1024 x 768 resolution and everything is off except for shaders which is on high because it made no difference fps-wise. I'm praying though that this switch works wonders for my fps haha.

There's a lot of FUD being posted in here. Changing to XP won't improve the performance really. I've had a lot of games play a lot better under Vista than they did in XP. You'll be better off and safer sticking with Windows Vista than downgrading to XP.

I have a dilemma haha. I downgraded to XP but stupid HP didn't have complete drivers for my laptop (its the tablet wannabe tx1308nr). I had to download the sound card from the parent company and I got my graphics driver from laptopvideos2go with a modded INF. I'm now not sure whether its the new graphics driver or XP that improved performance because I can now play from 17-26 fps on middling graphics in my laptop @ 1024 x 768 reso. One sucky thing though about XP, I also have to download my touchscreen, handwriting recognition, and quickplay button drivers/software from outside sources whereas in Vista, they were all there and built-in.

That's what happens when you downgrade. Often things that once worked just fine will no longer work, some may not ever work at all.

You may want to go back up to Vista.

just find the drivers you need a slipstream a disk using nlite before you downgrade.... voila - it's a little more time consuming at first but it saves you allot of hassle in the end. Although, I don't beieve that GW runs any better on Xp then on Vista..... as long as you have enough system to handle vista it ought to be fine with GW..... some games do run better on XP, but I don't believe that GW is one of them that has any noticeable differences.

wow im bored with people hating vista still....especially those who hate because that was the general consensus a while back. most vista issues have been irradicated, and were a long time back. im not going to lie, vista does likes its resources, but it is also a much more powerfull os that XP. but there is no denying that windows7 is everything vista wanted to be.

@ Stein, there's a reason why ppl hate vista. As you already mentioned windows 7 is everything vista wanted to be.

Back on topic, as already been mentioned it won't make much difference. If game running slow first thing I'd drop is the graphics detail. Especially V-Sync and Antialiasing (this can significantly improve framerate). You said you're running at 1024x768, try 800x600 (which I believe its the lowest setting for the game).

Hope that helps.
