Yea, well, you know how it goes, I have to fix my boss' wife's laptop-who from now on I'll refer to as Mallyx cause she F* looks like a damn huge ape from hell

- and I'm having problems. So please, any help is greatly appreciated and I don't wanna lose my job lol

Allright first things first. Teh laptop: Acer Aspire 5920, new PC, Vista

, Sata HDD and all, and no gurantee

.

Mallyx was using her laptop when sudenly the "Z0mFg Blue Screen of Death(BSOD)" appeared and since then, whenever you boot, you always get the BSOD. I tried:

1) Safe mode=BSOD.
2) Normal boot=BSOD.
3) Last known good configurations thingy=BSOD.
4) Changed the HDD settings in BIOS(Sata, AHCI mode etc), then (1)+(2)=BSOD.
5) Deafult settings on bios then (1)+(2)+(3)+(4)=BSOD.
6) Checked memory cards, then (1)+(2)+(3)=BSOD.
7) Booting with the vista bootup CD which just never runs and stays on the message saying; "Press any key to load from CD". I tried a gazilion times and also just left it there for about 1 hour(after pressing any key) in case the CD booted and got nothing but the message I mentioned above.
8) Booting with XP CD and got the same as (7).

Side Notes:
1) Mallyx has changed the HDD once already in early January(same problems maby?).
2) Memory cards look fine.
3) No bipping from the PC at start so it's not the Graphics, Memory cards etc..
4) I ain't got any enchantments on me but still Mallyx can ZomFgpwn me, /120% DP and /job

My guess is the HDD having problems again which propably has a gurantee too(cause a new one was bought on January like I said above, but dunno), but you know how it goes with Mallyx already..

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalpz!

EDIT: Well, I'm not in any real danger of losing my job, since I'm a .NET developer and not doing technical thingys, but this Mallyx is cruel and doesn't have any decent "drops"

What does the BSOD say??? Any error message?

If it is set in the BIOS to boot from CD first and it still won't boot from CD,then I doubt it's the HDD - my best guess right now is that it's the memory. If it has 2 or more DIMMS in there try running it with just one, make sure they are seated correctly, and if possible swap them out for some other compatible memory that you have on hand (if you have any that is). Thanks for answering so fast. I rechecked and got the following:

1) Just before Windows start loading I saw this: PXE-E61 media Test Failure Check Cable

I googled it and tried a few things like:
a) In bios I disabled LAN booting
b) Boot order=CD/DVD then HDD
and nothing worked

.

2) On the BSOD this message appeared:

*Random windows crap about checking HD and booting with Vista CD yada yada..* 0x00000007B(0x80403BA0, 0XC00000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) on which I found nothing at all

It is set to boot from CD indeed and i checked th memory cards and they seem fine, but dunno..

I think it's single but not actually sure.. When you say that i should try running with one, you mean plugging out one of 'em and boot? And I don't have any other compatible memory

Now why didn't I think of that? I'll have to ask my boss if he wants me to perform a "surgery" on his wife's laptop..

this woman sounds harsh if shes willing to fire you over a broken laptop :O, if your that worried and its a cheap laptop, buy a new one which is the exact same and say you had to wipe the hard drive. :P

Remove the RAM DIMMS, and try it with just one of them, first one and then the other. It won't hurt to try it and it takes just a few minutes.

However, with the PXE-E61 error it sounds like a dead or poorly seated HDD. Try taking that out and re-seating it.... if no luck then find another computer that you can test the laptop HDD on. If it works elsewhere but not in the laptop than the SATA adapter might be bad, in either case it will probably need some more $$$ invested in it. Tell your boss' wife to get a desktop next time.

Need more information on the blue screen than just the 0x codes.

We need the message, such as IRQ_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO, the 0x code and the offending file if one applies.

If you're able to get into the system without a blue screen, you can find the *.dmp file and I can analyze it for the offending files/etc. so the issue can be resolved faster. :P

The only thing that can be done up to now, is enter BIOS I'm afraid.. I'll try posting more later, if I get the chance to take a look on the laptop. There's just too much to do at work at the moment >.<

Since it's Vista you should be able to use the Vista DVD/MSDaRT to get in.

Just put the disc in an external enclosure, and look for the .DMP like Tarun said.

Problem solved, memory was acting bitchy. Removed one, booted with the other and everything is cool. Weird thing is that we had to format anyway because I couldn't log in in Windows anyway, but I managed to boot with the Vista CD.
