Default Texmod and McAfee (I can't find ANY thread to actually solve this problem)

So I know Texmod isn't a virus. Please don't tell me that.

I know I need to make an exception for Texmod in McAfee. But I don't know how.

I know how to make a firewall exception for programs accessing the internet. That's not what I need.

I can access the "Trusted List" in McAfee under Virus Protection but there is no button to add a program to the list. How can I run Texmod without turning off McAfee?

I have this problem too, but i just turn mcaffe off for a few seconds. Then i run texmod and then i put mcafee back on.

in mcafee i just go to configuration -> computer and files (the 2nd one, guess it is called that way, i have the dutch version)

then i put virus security off (2nd option again) and i run texmod.

right after ive clicked run in texmod i put the virus security on again and it works.

i know its not what you've asked for, however it get the job done.....

not trying to start an arguement, but how do u "know" it isnt a virus?

running it through www.virustotal.com it came up with 14 out of 41 hits.

meaning 14 different scanners found virus code in it...

also tried virscan.org and jotti with same results.

How about... get a better antivirus?

That's the best solution.

its a trojan by nature because it does modify some files. But it is not harmful. It is in use by countless number of players, and as long as you got it off of GwG or wiki, it is safe to use. I have McAfee and I hate having to turn off my virus scanner and then turn it back on after I've already run textmod. But there is no way to make an exception (atleast i havent found a way to do it yet), and I have basically stopped using it except when i need to.

until the source code is released, no one can be sure it isn't a virus.

plain and simple.

1. The solution to OP's problem is to ditch McCrappy for Avira.

2.

Mine sure doesn't do that. I suspect you've got a modified copy. Check your checksum.

McAfee and Comodo are both crap esp if you are paying for them. I used McAfee for a few years and had trouble, the last 2.5ish yrs I have been using Avast and have not had a single problem.... on 4 computers.

umm, yea, based on several comparisons of free and paid firewalls, comodo is one of the best. their a/v sucks, but their firewall is top 5.

and just to clarify, i got this version of texmod directly from the wiki and the checksums match.

why texmod is watching for pressed keystrokes is beyond me.

as i said earlier, until the source is released, noone can be sure that this isnt a trojan.

If you need an AV program, you should only use 'AVG Free'. There is no point paying for them, and there is certainly no real need for them unless you frequent those type of sites.

In logging mode, TexMod has keyboard controls. It uses hotkeys, which it allows the user to configure. Comodo Defense+ is an overprotective nanny. Still, better safe than sorry. Make sure you don't have a modified copy.

Avira or Avast!, tbh - we used to recommend AVG wholeheartedly, but it deteriorated somewhat. Its excessive false-positives made it totally un-recommendable for me.

Oh, and if you use Comodo (I do) - don't use Defense+

AVG said it was a virus too, so I just closed that and started up ClamWin, an open source anti-virus.
