Default Ventrilo muffles sound

Whenever I open ventrillo, it muffles the sound for things like guild wars and such.
I tried updating my sound card, but nothing helped.

My specs are an HP Vista laptop and my sound card is NVIDIA HDMI Audio.

It's hard to describe the problem other than the sound getting muffled until I reset my comp. Any help? This is a new laptop.

Have you tried the settings in Ventrillo?

You have several sound codecs and sample rates as well as direct sound or not.

Haven't noticed the problem myself but will check later

I concur that it sounds like a driver issue, also check your volume settings.

Hmm, off the top of my head.....

Maybe there's some setting in your audio control panel that automatically enables an equalizer (with an unwanted setting) when Ventrilo starts.

Maybe your on-board sound can't handle enough bit streams to properly run Ventrilo plus other sounds.

Btw, is the sound in Ventrilo muffled as well?

Best guess - driver issue. Reinstall/upgrade your sound drivers (which may be part of the mainboard chipset drivers). Go to the HP site and get the latest Vista drivers for your rig.
