I haven't played in maybe two years. I've moved to Australia since and I didn't bring the CD/DVD, so I'm downloaded the client from the guildwars.com website.

Last time I played, I was in Abaddon's Mouth. Now, it's loading the data for that area.

My question is how big is this data? Is it just downloading the data for Abaddon's Mouth, or is it downloading data from everywhere? Also is the percentage thing accurate? I'm at 41.5 MB and it's still at 0%.

Do I have any other options without the CD/DVD?

The full gw.dat file is about 4 Gigabytes. I'm not sure if it will try to download the whole thing in one go, but it is big, and will take some time.

It's up to 100 MB and it jumped to 10%. I guess the percentage thing was just lagging for the first 8 or so percent.

edit - actually the percent complete seems to be based on the file count rather than the total data. Is that true?

I believe so. So it can be deceiving on actual time remaining.
