Removing one of the OS
Since Windows 7 was released today, I thought it was a good time to remove my Windows XP, keep my old Windows 7 32bit and installing Windows 7 64bit in place of the XP.
But I can't format the partition with XP or delete it. Any ideas as to how I can simply empty up the partition? I tried removing every file, but somehow there are 10GB left for no reason, even though in all of the 3 folders left there is about 20MB left. Are there any programs to help me remove those files? It would also help if someone (again... sorry for that) pointed me to where the Windows 7 equivalent of boot.ini is, as I've been trying to find it (or the equivalent of it ;d) is on my disk. |

Good call - I need to do the same with my temporary Vista/W7RC setup now I have the retail W7 in hand. Rather than puzzling things out like I usually do, someone who actually knows the right way to go about this would be most welcome

For all your drive formatting, resizing, and moving needs. And for messing with your boot manager, get Easy BCDEdit.

Yeah, I noticed that Easy BCD was already installed from the previous boot.ini problem ;d
Now I just need to format the partition. Thanks for help. |

you can format partitions when you run the installation disc (at least you could with XP or Vista - haven't got my Win7 disc yet).... Just delete the partition and reformat it to install Win7 - pretty simple.

my comp now dual boots vista and 7, if I formatted the vista partition would it just be gone or will it still be in the boot options?

if you format a partition that has an OS installed on it you will lose the OS.
