this is actually very eazy to do. just download crossovers via http://www.codeweavers.com/products/ works almost 100%, you will be better of with bootcamp but if you are like me in love with osx and don't want to leave it for gw then this is the best option to go. but still: PLZ PLZ ARENANET GW2 FOR THE MAC!!!!

i for one wouldnt mind if they made one for linux but im not getting my hopes up not many companies deal with linux straight up. the das fact it would be so much easier for them seeing almost everything is open source they dont have to play as much with microsoft being so secretive as they have at times

GW and GW2 uses directX, a microsoft product. the reason why 99.9% of games today use directX as its graphics API, is because microsoft delivers outstanding support and it is much easier and more powerful than openGL.

for GW2 to run on linux and mac OSX natively, anet will have to create a second client using openGL. given what i've just said, that will largely be a waste of time and money. after all, why use twice the money to deliver two clients, when one of the clients will only be used by approximately 5% of the user base?

As Moriz says, the chances that ANet will spend the time and money to develop a GW client for Linux or OSX are next to nil. (And let's remind everyone, once again, that it's OSX that doesn't run GW - GW runs just fine on an (Intel) iMac using Windows or an emulator)
Linux has almost no users on the "home PC" front (other than net-books, which aren't meant for gaming) and no solid "standard" platform.
Apple's share of the PC market is about 8% at the moment. When you consider how many of those Mac users even play games and how many of them don't have access to Windows or a windows emulator, the market for an OSX version of GW is way too small. Get over it.

Boot Camp will be by far the best bet for this. History speaks for itself; ANet doesn't seem interested enough in the Mac market, or perhaps more appropriately, they don't get the funding to make it worthwile. Blizzard is a much larger game company.

So yes, it doesn't run on OS X, but it runs on Mac (if it's an Intel Mac and not a PPC), although you need a Windows license, at least if you want to stay legal. After that, you're set to go at no performance hit from emulators. I expect it to even run very well indeed on those fairly new MacBook Pros and their NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, or even 9600M GT video cards.

It's funny that everyone is obsessed about keeping OSX around for gaming on their Macs, despite the huge performance losses they get comared to running them natively on Windows. Sure, Mac users generally don't like Windows, but if they're only keeping it around for games, most of the time will be spent actually playing the games, no?

Plus, Windows 7 looks pretty nice now. I'm getting one of the new MacBook Pros in a couple of weeks and have no shame in dual booting Windows to play games. I'll also be installing Ubuntu to keep up with the free software side of things as well as produce music.

Either way, I'll provide a little mini-review of GW via Boot Camp soon. The main problem is that there's hardly any information about people trying to play games via boot camp on the macbooks, and it's getting annoying when you find a comprehensive review showing poor performance, and then realise they've gone and tried to run games in parallels.

I run GW using Crossover just fine. I do not notice any problems...

Macbook 2.0 C2D, 4GB RAM, 256MB nVidia 9400

or they Could Just Code the Bloody thing for BSD and open GL

why BSD? Code For BSD will Compile on anything and Jumping Ship on Direct X would be a good idea anyway v 10 and Beyond have proven to be nothing Short of a Train Wreck


and crossover games remains the best Choice to get GW running on non microsmurf platforms at this time

randomly capitalizing every word doesn't make your point valid. yes dx10 wasn't quite the huge jump as it was from dx8 to dx9 (largely because the performance just wasn't there), but it is STILL leagues ahead of openGL.

and anyways, anet already announced that GW2 will use directx. it's too late to change now.

i agree with you on the direct x thing its the game companies problem they did to them selves when they jumped on directx in the earlier forms there was a really a reason to do much with opengl they made a mistakes that they will pay for a long time. i remembering argueing with people about this many years ago and feel i was right then id love to see games made for linux and mac but i doubt itll ever happen unless we get a majority of companies all to decide to switch and i highly doubt that will ever happen. there is a lot of talented people who still write stuff for the open source but without backing of major companies they are stuck to keeping up with new drivers instead of making ground breaking that need to be done to make either to compete with windows

Okay, I got my Mac earlier today, and the first thing I did after installing Windows 7 on it was to test GW on it. I ran at 1280x800, on the lowest end Macbook Pro (the latest one that came out this year)

It runs beautifully at max settings and no anti-aliasing, and is a sight to see. I might do a video later.

I don't think that you can blame the Game companies for the switch to DirectX over Open GL and other 3D APIs.

Firstly, Microsoft provided better development tools for game companies to use, cutting their development costs and production time. Secondly, Microsoft often goes to great lengths to support gaming companies in using DirectX and optimizing their games.

Not a fan of Microsoft, just pointing out why gaming companies were so quick to adopt Direct3D.

Default GW on a MAC?

How too? I have googled this and all the threads I have read seem to be very old. I would like to run GW on my MAC. The only option I know is to use the Boot Camp, however I have not read any confirmations that this will work.

Please don't turn this into a why run GW on a MAC thread. There are plenty of those already. Reason is simple, because I have a MAC and I want to run GW on it.

Thank you in advance for any guidance you can provide to me.

you might check the gw on the mac thread in the software section or threads over in that section for advice first you might find your answer. im about 95% sure you can get guild wars running on bootcamp and or crossover. i know ive done it using wine

bootcamp will work, since it is Windows on apple hardware.
You do need a copy of windows to install.

I use W.I.N.E. in Linux and Mac, which I would suggest crossover games. Don't ever feel that Windows is ever needed...

ya, i would like to run guild wars with VMwear fusion. but it says that something along the lines of "Unable to 3D output. Please verify that you have installed DirectX 8 and a updated video driver." i have DirectX 10 so in clear there. and what is the updated video driver?? i have a Macbook Pro 13.3" with 2.53 GHz duo core processor and 4GB on ram. 250GB hard drive and GeForce 9400M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR SDRAM. what do i need to do to play GW??

PLEASE HELP!!!

ummm... you can't run GW on a virtualized platform, simply because virtualization does not support 3D graphics acceleration at all.
