Default Guild Wars & Fraps

I'm trying to record a few videos with Fraps but the craziest thing happens whenever I'm recording and enter a town/any zone: my monitor sort of freezes to the loading image but from the music I can hear that it's not loading any longer.

My video card drivers are 100% up-to-date (updated to the 2/17/'10 ones today). I use Fraps 3.1.0 build 11052, 30fps recording, "Lock framerate" is not ticked, no sound recording enabled, cursor is NOT hidden, "force lossless RGB capture" is not ticked.

Please help me =|

Does your pc have only 1 hard drive?

Similar issues I've had are when I've been recording to the same hard drive that the client has been on. The hard drive has a hard time keeping up dumping uncompressed frames on the hard drive while retrieving the game information it needs from the Guild Wars .dat file, resulting in stuttering or the game appearing to lock up. The solution I found was to change my fraps destination to another hard drive (external hard drive works fine).

I have 2 hard drives, one 320gb and one 500gb. No extra partitions.
Guild Wars is on C:\, Fraps is on D:\

That throws that idea out the window then. I'll admit I'm not really sure what to suggest from here. But just to confirm are you trying to record the loading screen itself rather than just having fraps running in the background?

Let's say I'm recording a droks run. I press F9 to start Fraps recording while I'm outside Beacon's Perch. I do my running bit until I have to zone -to Dreadnought's Drift or w/e-, THEN it freezes on the loading screen.
My only solution would be recording it in several bits, skipping the loading screens :\

I'm having exactly the same problem. Me and 2 other friends are playing Guild Wars for the first time and I thought it would be cool to capture a lot of it using Fraps. It works fine until I get to the load screens between areas and there it freezes. I have to close GW and then relaunch. I use Fraps all the time to capture a variety of games without problems so not sure what to do about this. If someone comes up with a solution I'd love to hear it. I want to be able to start a recording and play with my friends for several hours and just leave it recording the whole time. I have Fraps recording to it's own dedicated Raid 0 array and my C drive with GW on it is also a Raid 0 array. I'm running XP Pro w/ 2GB of memory and a Dual Core @ 2.4Ghz. Anyone out there getting this to work where they can just leave Fraps running for hours during a GW session?

It sure as heck aiin't any of our specs. What kinda PSU do u have? For me the problem -could- be my shitty 3rd world country brand but I'm getting a corsair 750w soon

edit:
Just tried it on my dad's Win7 Home Premium x64; no worky [that had an ATi gfx card]
tried on another laptop with vista, nvidia graphics, it WORKED. It might just be ATI's drivers.

I share the problem too and just do the same as the guy above me does; pausing fraps whenever I'm about to load.

I didn't think that as an issue because it has an easy compromise, but seeing as it's been raised here, I'd like to know a fix too. Sorry I can't help either

does your screen flicker once on load screens? apparently, that's what's causing the issue. it happens with all radeon graphic cards on vista or windows 7, and as far as i know, there's no fix for it.

Well I've watched it very carefully many times and there is no flicker, also I don't have a Radeon video card I have an Nvidia GTX260. I'm guessing that this is just a problem with Fraps and this particular game. I was really more curious if there is anyone that can get it to continue recording while the area is loading and it sounds like at least floor69 was able to get it going on the Vista/Nvidia combo. Anyone else?

I thought about just stopping recording between areas as some of you have mentioned the problem is when I play with my group if someone enters the next area without thinking about it or asking it pulls me in too since I'm in the party, thus freezing up GW with no warning.

Btw, floor69 your problem is NOT your power supply. I read a thread similar to this on Google (it may have been you) where one or two guys was suggesting the power supply was the problem. That's not the case. I have a nice Thermaltake 650watt power supply. This is a problem between Fraps, GW and the OS/video card setup apparently. If you can successfully record other games using Fraps and just not GW during load screens your power supply is not the problem.

Anyone else out there able to get this to work (i.e. Fraps recording during load screens) as floor69 discovered on his laptop?

It's very possible that that was me, but I need a new PSU nonetheless (other issues occur :\)
Is there a way we can contact the makers of fraps?

I sent an email last night to Fraps support explaining the problem and asking about a solution. I'll post here if they reply back.

What version of fraps are u guys using? I read something very interesting in the changelog from 3.1.1 regarding detection on loading screens. Testing atm!!

EDIT:
Flash 'n' crash >.> Will test more though.

Jeez I've recently downloaded Fraps and what's annoying is that it only records 30 seconds of video. Then I found out that I need to buy the full version of it.

So you can just leave Fraps recording video for a couple hours and cross between areas with no problems?

What are your system specs? (OS, cpu, video card, amount of memory) Trying to narrow down the problem. Thanks.
