Default Issues with Catalyst 10.4

Is anyone having trouble with Catalyst 10.4 drivers?
When in windowed mode, if I move my pointer over an icon in the systray or a task on the task bar the UI goes away. It returns as soon as I move the mouse off the icon or task bar. Naturally this only effects windowed mode. I was able to correct this issue by redownloading the gw.dat file, however within a very short time it started happening again.
Inshort; I can say that the 10.4 driver does corrupt the gw.dat file. At first I thouth it was a one off, but it has happened to me twice since introduction of 10.4. I am thinking about going back to 10.3 as the issue never once occured with that version of the driver.

I haven't had any trouble with them either. However, i'm using the 10.4a's(the ones that fix BC2 load times for 4xxx cards) and they're slightly newer than the 'official' 10.4's.

No problems here with my 5870... but then again, you have a 4xxx series card, so totally different.

I found that I sometimes have the same problems with 10.3 if I leave Folding at Home running. Sometimes pausing folding at home corrects the issue, other times I have to turn folding at home off. Twice I have had to log on as a different user, it's a gaming profile I designed to reduce everythign down to bare bones, to fix it.
I have not played with it for a few days.

For those of you wondering if I am stressing my PSU, it does it with and without crossfire enabled, and with only one card installed. It does not matter which card. It just happens less frequently. I am starting to wonder if it is a conflict with razer as that is the only thing that has been updaqted that has not been undone, that I know of. The system however worked fine for two weeks (or more) after I updated the mouse firmware and installed the latest driver. ...sorry random thoughts...

Edit: Since I posted this, I went to the ATI forums and found several people with 4800 series cards that are having simular issues. The only think all have in common is they installed the 10.4 driver.

I haven't updated my drivers since I found out that an "earlier" "update" FUBARed my Blu-Ray playback. I had to fight to revert it back. Never had an issue since, and I don't see the need to update. Yay me.

No issues with my card, in fact I'm running 10.5 now since they fixed the Mass Effect 2 issue. (HD 4670)

It turns out that it is a very old v-sync issue. There is a work around that corrects the error, but caused the mouse to strobe.

What is mouse strobing?

Just wondered because we have an ongoing question about mouse problems

I call it stobing because when you are not moving the mouse, the mouse cursor will appear to flash on and off or appear to blink. If you move the mouse around it will disappear, UI elements will show a highlight but you will not see the cursor until the mouse has not moved for several seconds.
Edit: the strobing effect only occures when using crossfire.

You may also notice some tearing, or if you are using a Samsung monitor, a color distortation wave that moves across the screen.

If your mouse is over sized, check to see if there is an update for your mother board BIOs. I so not know why, but almost everyone that uses an AMD chipset and experences that issue will find that it is fixed by a BIOs update. I have heard of it occuring with Nvidia chip sets sometimes updating the BIOs works, some times it don't according to reports I have read.
