Default Need serious help with a graphics issue

I tried to take screenshots of this, but it doesn't show up in the screenies. After changing maps a few times or playing for a few minutes, I get a bad static in the form of little horizontal lines across my screen and flashes of color around my screen. I can restart and it fixes, but comes back when I play GW again. I have played since before factions, and have never seen this. It doesn't happen when I play Starcraft 2.

I have even tried plugging my VGA cord into my TV and the problem remains.

I am running a Nvidia 8600gt.

Would like this fixed soon... Would like to play while a dungeon I need is the ZB >>.

You may want to look into SpeedFan or a similar program to check the temperature of your GPU. Since it persists if you output onto other screens, I would have suspected a problem in your output circuitry, but not if it fixes itself on restart. It is curious that it doesn't happen in another program.

You say you're working on the ZB. Is that Frostmaw? Have you been in there before? I know that some cards have problems with some dungeons, but to my knowledge that's not one of dungeons and that's not one of the cards. It sounds like it happens if you repeatedly map between the towns? You're testing innocuous locations?

What happens if you do nothing? Log in and sit there?

check your temperatures, your drivers, and if they are in order delete your gw.dat file and then run the gw.exe with the "-image" command overnight (remove the command line before playing).

What do you mean run it with the "-image" command? Not very technical savvy >>...

If, for example, your copy of Guild Wars is stored in the default location of C:\Program Files\Guild Wars, then you need to do the following:

Copy+paste this into your Start->Run box (XP) or directly into the search bar in Vista/7:
Code:
"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\gw.exe" -image
(Did I get it right this time, Elder? )

That will update your gw.dat to the latest version.

Personally I think it sounds more like overheating - SC2 notwithstanding.

You should download a temperature monitoring program and see what temperatures you are hitting while playing GW and SC2 as well. I suggest HWMonitor for you, it's a smaller program and is easy to use. Try to play each game for at least 15-20 minutes and then either ALT + Tab out or just exit the game and check those temperatures immediately. Post the results here.

@ Snograt - you are, as always, most impeccable.
