Delete the Guild Wars folder in program files and try again. I got that error before when i deleted my gw.dat file. Removing the folder and trying the reinstall again fixed it. Vista and 7 are more picky with what you do in the program files folder, some things that worked with xp might require a bit more tweaking for them to work.

EDIT: Also check that your gw.dat file is not set to read only before doing anything. You can also try right click, run as administrator.

You don't actually need to install at all. Just copy the files somewhere and run the exe. And the file is just one 4GB virtual disk. Pretty cool, except when the data file gets corrupted .

Is GWs set to run as administrator? Even though you are on an administrator account GWs won't run with admin privileges unless you tell it to by right clicking and choosing "Run as Administrator" (to avoid doing this every time you want to play, right click > Properties > go to the Compatibility tab > check the "Run as Administrator" box.

To avoid having UAC coming up every time you run the game you can install it to your Documents folder, that way you won't have to run it as administrator.
