Default How to run 2 GW clients at the same time

Hello, I recently bought an account for extra player slots and storage, and i was wondering if there is a way to run both my old and new account at once? I searched it but it seems pretty complicated, can anyone simplify it? Also, is is legal in game? Thanks for any response.

Guild Wars Multi Launch is my choice. You can also look up GWx2 which is a little bit different but does the same thing.

Multi Launch programs are in the grey area. It's neither illegal or legal to run them but if downloaded from the proper sources and without the program being modified you won't get banned.

I've had great luck with Guild Wars Multi-Loader 4.00, aka Guild Wars Magic by Matty Asia, it's a very simple program to use. Try http://www.guildwarsmagic.com or http://www.mattyasia.com, however both seem to be down right now, so not sure what's going on there. PM me if you want me to forward you a copy of the program.

I used Matty's program as well and had no problems with it under XP; it was very easy to setup too. It worked under Win7 as well, but it took some tweaking to get it setup right.

i had an issue with multi loader, it does well at removing the mutex from the running guild wars but iirc you had to load multiloader first and leave it running as you boot each gw client and multiloader is coded using .net libraries, thus if you have issues with them or whatever (as a lot of people do) then it may not run at all.

some years ago i coded a patch, quite crude though, but it simply changes the name "Guild Wars" in the .exe file to whatever you want it to be. so when the client creates the mutex it creates it using a name that differs from the other guild wars clients.

i then run the clients in windowed mode as i have yet to determine a 'fullscreen windowed' method of running them, so its easiest to simply control them for the time being in windowed mode.

using these two methods noted above i can successfully dual box in pve with two accounts and if you play around with the setup and chars you use its not that hard actually. pvp is another story as it seems to require too much interaction with both clients at the same time.

edit:
forgot to mention, im working on figuring out a way to force a 'fullscreen windowed' mode of the gw client since i run dual monitors it would help a lot (and provides much more usable space in game) i will be posting my solution here on guru forums

you can look at my patch at http://4x10m.limewebs.com/gwpatch.zip
i provided c source code and compiled binary, this was compiled with vs6 and packed with upx, if you dont trust my compiling or whatever simply read and compile the source code yourself

Running multiple copies of GW is not against the rules. What you are doing with the multiple copies might be. If you are using the program to enable you to move inventory between accounts, ArenaNet, so far, has no problem with that. If you are using multiple accounts to fix PvP matches, then you will get banned.

I also use GW Multi-Launch on Vista with no problems.
